Mobile World Congress is going strong, and we have already covered a bunch of smartphones from LG, Nokia, etc. Today i.e. on day 2, we now have a couple of smartphone announcement from Sony and one of them is something that we have never seen before. Yes, we are talking about a smartphone, and it is called the Xperia XZ Premium. Why so much hype around this? Well, it comes with 4k LCD panel and Qualcomm’s latest and the greatest 835 SoC. What else can you ask for?

The Sony Xperia XZ Premium is indeed one of those smartphones which are designed to take smartphone innovation to a whole new level. It is extremely powerful with the top of the line internals and can be called a great smartphone for media consumption as well as content creation. The Sony Xperia XZ Premium has a 5.5-inch, 3840×2160 LCD which makes it a 4K panel and gives it a ridiculous number of 801 PPI. Yes, you will not see a pixel on this display no matter how hard you try.

The smartphone is also powered by a Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 835 SoC which is the company’s top of the line SoC in the market right now. Although there were rumors about the availability issues with this SoC, Sony somehow managed to get hands on this one. The Xperia XZ Premium will also have 4GB of RAM and 64GB of internal storage. And just like every other Xperia smartphone, this one also comes with an IP68 certification for Dust and water resistance.

The Xperia XZ Premium’s display and the internals will be kept powered by a 3230mAh battery, which might not be enough to push a lot of SoT, though, but we will have to see how that works out. The smartphone will be running on Android 7.1 Nougat out of the box. Talking about the design of the smartphone, most people will not be a fan of this considering the fact that we are now getting smartphones with minimal bezels and this is something on the opposite end of the spectrum. However, we have a solid build quality here as the name suggests and both the glasses on the front as well as the back are Gorilla Glass 5.

The highlight, however, is the camera here which is their new Motion Eye technology. It has a Sony 19MP IMX300 sensor that can film at 960FPS@720p. The number which you are seeing here is about four times faster than what is found on most newer flagship devices and we have to applaud Sony for this. It is an ultra-fast camera technology according to the company and we can’t wait to get our hands on it and try it out. But it looks like we might have for a long time since we unfortunately, don’t have any info on the availability or the pricing of the smartphone.

Xperia XZs

Sony has also launched the new Xperia XZs along with the other smartphones. The Sony Xperia XZs has the same motion Eye camera which is found on the Xperia XZ Premium. So what we are looking at here is essentially a Xperia XZ with a Motion Eye camera on it. The Xperia XZs has a 5.2″ FHD display on the front and it runs on Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 chipset which is similar to what we saw with last year’s XZ. On the front, there is also a 13MP selfie shooter which is again a great addition. It is expected that this particular smartphone will launch sooner than the Xperia XZ Premium since we don’t necessarily have to wait for the availability of Qualcomm Snapdragon 835.Stay tuned to PhoneRadar for more info on this.
