Xiaomi Mi5 & Mi Band 1S HR enters African Markets, Redmi Note 3 to launch soon



In November last year, Xiaomi had officially entered the African market by selling Redmi 2 and Mi 4 smartphones. Now the company has launched the flagship Mi 5 and Mi Band 1S with Heart Rate sensor (Mi Band Pulse). The “Mobile in Africa” which sells the Xiaomi products in Africa also confirmed the Snapdragon 650 powered Redmi Note 3 to be made official in the coming weeks. Interestingly, Xiaomi hasn’t launched the Mi Band 1S in India.

The Xiaomi Mi 5 was unveiled at the MWC 2016 held in February was later launched in China and India. The device comes with 3GB of RAM and is priced at ZAR 7,999 (approx $524 / Rs. 35,550), while it costs Rs. 24,999 in India. There is also another variant with 4GB of RAM and Ceramic back panel. It is powered by Snapdragon 820 quad-core processor and includes 32GB of storage. On the camera front, there is a 16MP rear camera with 4-axis OIS and a 4MP front camera for selfies.

It is backed by a 3,000mAh battery and supports quick charge 3.0 with the USB Type-C port. The Mi 5 also sports a fingerprint embedded into the physical home button. On the other hand, the Mi Band 1S with heart rate sensor comes with a price tag of ZAR 399 (approx $26 / Rs. 1,800). It is the same Mi Band that was launched in 2014 but additionally comes with heart rate sensor. It is IP67 waterproof and dustproof as earlier and offers a month-long battery life.

The Mi Band 1S can be connected with both Android and iOS devices. Recently the company also launched the Mi Band 2 in China. It sports an LED display and button the front. Xiaomi hasn’t yet announced any plans for the launch of Mi Band 2 in foreign markets.
