Xiaomi Mi 9 SE Confirmed to Make Global Debut Soon

Xiaomi launched the Mi 9 and Mi 9 SE smartphones in China in February this year. Today, the company has officially confirmed to launch the Mi 9 SE outside of China. We expect it to be made available by the end of this month in the European markets. The Mi 9 SE is the successor to last year’s Mi 8 SE and looks very much similar to the flagship Mi 9. It comes with a glass body and offers a gradient finish. In China, the device came in 6GB + 64GB and 6GB + 128GB storage variants and is retailing from CNY 1999 (approx USD 299 / INR 20,700).
Talking about the specifications, Mi 9 SE sports a smaller 5.97-inch Super AMOLED display with Full HD+ (2280 x 1080 pixels) resolution and Corning Gorilla Glass 5 protection. With the waterdrop notch, the display offers 90.4% screen-to-body ratio. While the flagship Mi 9 came with 7nm Snapdragon 855 Mobile Platform, the Mi 9 SE packs 10nm Snapdragon 712 Mobile Platform. It comes coupled with Kryo 360 CPU and Adreno 616 GPU. The Mi 9 SE is also the worlds first smartphone to come powered by this chipset.
As mentioned earlier, the device packs 6GB of LPDDR4x RAM and comes in 64GB and 128GB storage options. Also, there is no MicroSD card slot option for further expanding the storage. It runs on Android 9.0 Pie out of the box with ads-filled MIUI 10 skin laid on top. Coming to the camera department, the Mi 9 SE sports triple rear camera setup featuring 48MP Sony IMX586 sensor with f/1.75 aperture, an 8MP telephoto sensor with f/2.4 aperture, and a 13MP ultra-wide-angle sensor with f/2.4 aperture. For selfies, there is a 20MP single front-facing camera with f/2.0 aperture.
Just like other newly launched Mi smartphones, the Mi 9 SE also comes with AI-based camera features like auto scene detection, AI selfie mode, AI portrait mode, and more. It is backed by a 3,070mAh non-removable which should last at least till the end of the day. The device also supports 18W fast charging using the USB Type-C port. The device also comes with an in-display fingerprint scanner for securely unlocking the device. Additionally, the device also supports face unlock using the front camera.
Connectivity options include 4G VoLTE, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 5.0, GPS, GLONASS, NFC, and USB Type-C. The device also misses out the 3.5mm audio jack for connecting the standard earphones. Both the power buttons and volume rocker are placed on the right edge of the device. The Mi 9 SE measures 147.5 × 70.5 × 7.45 mm and weighs 155 grams. We hope the company also brings this device to the Indian market. Stay tuned on PhoneRadar for more updates!
