A month after launching the Xiomi Mi5 in February, there are rumours about an upgraded variant called Xiaomi Mi 5S. While the device is rumoured to come up with 6GB RAM, curved display, and dual camera setup. Though all these are yet to be confirmed and till then take them with a pinch of salt. But, Antutu has confirmed few specifications of upcoming Xiaomi Mi 5S. The new device will be featuring the same 5.15-inch Full HD display as on original Mi 5. Under the hood, the Mi 5S will be powered by Snapdragon 821 processor instead of Snapdragon 820 processor.

Qualcomm mentioned that the Snapdragon 821 SoC to offer 10% better performance than the Snapdragon 820 SoC. It will be running on latest MIUI 8 based on Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow out of the box. While the Android 7.0 Nougat is already launched, we cannot expect Xiaomi to release the MIUI based on Android Nougat anytime soon. LeEco will be launching its new smartphone with dual rear cameras later this month and we expect Xiaomi to bring dual camera setup to Mi 5S too. Earlier this year, Xiaomi launched affordable Redmi Pro with 13MP dual rear cameras.

Earlier: July 8, 2016 – Last month we covered a report which stated that the two Chinese smartphone manufacturers LeEco & Xiaomi, are buying Dual-camera modules from the South Korean manufacturing giant Samsung. And now, it looks like Xiaomi is ready with a smartphone implemented with the same setup. Yes, as reported, it was expected that the company may be purchasing them for the upcoming Mi 5s, and now we a leak claiming that might be true.

An alleged render of the device has leaked online that shows the device. The device shown in the render is a black colored variant and appears to have a very similar design language to that of the Xiaomi Mi 5. More interestingly, the device shown in the renders sports a dual-camera setup, just as we expected last time. The front and back of the device appear to be made up of glass and sports a similar metal band around the sides of the device.

If the renders are true and if the Mi 5s will feature a dual-camera display, then it is indeed shaping up to be an excellent device. According to the previous rumours, the device is expected to be powered by a Snapdragon 820 SoC and is expected to pack 6GB of RAM. The device is also expected to feature a 5.5-inch HD display on the front. Other features include a fingerprint scanner at the front of the device and Force touch display technology, which allows the device to distinguish between a light and a strong touch.

The possibility of the Mi 5s having a dual-camera sensor cannot be ruled out completely, given the fact that the company is buying dual-camera sensors from Samsung. Also, this is the upcoming flagship from the company and it is more likely to be featuring the sensor other than any other device at this point. However, we have no confirmation on this, and these are just renders of the device. It could be a fake render as well as saw yesterday with the Nokia P1 renders. So we suggest you to take this information lightly and wait for any final confirmation from the company. Stay tuned for more details.

I think Dual Camera is overrated. Lytro like Refocusing is cool but isn’t it can be done by a software tweaks ?

  • This is an upgrade to Mi5 before Mi6! 🙂
