Yeelight, one of the subsidiaries of Xioami, offers home lighting solutions in China. It also ships few of its products to other markets including the U.S, U.K, France, Canada, and Germany. It sells smart LED bulbs, table lamps, bedside lights, ceiling lights, and many more. Today, the company has launched its latest product in a completely new category. The Yeelight Virtual Assistant speaker is the first ever smart speaker with built-in voice assistant under the Yeelight brand.

The Yeelight Virtual Assistant speaker looks similar to Amazon’s Echo Dot launched in March last year. Just like Echo Dot, the Yeelight Virtual Assistant also comes with the action button, microphone on/off button, volume up button, and volume down button. However, there is an additional button for muting the speaker on Yeelight Virtual Assistant that’s available on the larger versions of the Amazon Echo. It is mentioned to come equipped with Dual AI systems and can be used for controlling other smart home products from Xiaomi.

For example, the Mi Home users can turn ON/OFF their Mi Air Purifier just with the voice commands. While there is no clear information, the product listing mentioned the voice assistant on this device comes from Microsoft. We expect the Yeelight Voice Assistant speaker to come powered by Microsoft Cortana. Last year’s Mi MIX was the first smartphone from Xiaomi that came with built-in Cortana AI. All the Xiaomi Mi smartphones also come with pre-installed Microsoft apps.

Much like any other smart speaker, the Yeelight Virtual Assistant can also detect voice commands up to 5m distance. It comes with advanced Acoustic echo cancellation (AEC) and Beamforming technologies for echo reduction. On the connectivity front, it includes 2.4GHz & 5GHz Wi-Fi and built-in Bluetooth gateway. Currently, only limited Xiaomi smart home products are compatible with Yeelight Virtual Assistant, but the company mentioned to support more devices in the coming days.

Just like Echo Dot, the Yeelight Virtual Assistant speaker also comes with a MicroUSB port. The Yeelight Virtual Assistant speaker packs six microphones and a single 2W speaker. It packs a 64-bit Cortex A53 quad-core processor clocked at 1.2GHz and comes coupled with 256MB RAM and 256MB of flash storage. As of now, the Yeelight Virtual Assistant speaker is listed on the company’s crowdsourcing platform for 199 Yuan. The shipping of this new product is expected to begin starting January 31st in China.

In the month of March, Yeelight Alexa service was officially published wherein Amazon Echo users could control their Yeelight product’s through Voice Commands but now it’s confusing how the brand has come up with their own product with Microsoft Integrations. You can find the same in the Amazon Alexa app under Skills. As of now, there is no information whether the company will ship this smart speaker to other markets or not. Stay tuned on PhoneRadar for more details!
