At the Mobile World Congress Shanghai 2017, Vivo showcased the under display fingerprint scanning technology. This came after many rumors suggesting Apple will unveil the iPhone 8 with under glass fingerprint scanner in the second half of 2017. Even the Samsung Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8 Plus are also rumored to feature the same under glass fingerprint scanner, but they actually came with rear facing fingerprint sensor. Now, the new leaks from China suggest the upcoming Vivo flagship smartphone dubbed Vivo Xplay 7 will be the first device to hit the market with under display fingerprint scanning technology.
The Xplay 7 (codenamed Vivo X20) will be the successor to the Xplay 6 which the company used to demo the under display fingerprint scanning technology at the MWCS 2017. As per the leaked images, the device also comes with a two-sided bezel-less display with curved edges. Just like the Galaxy S8, the rear of the Vivo Xplay 7 also has curved edges which should offer nice grip to hold on to. The power button and volume rocker are placed on the right edge of the device. Since there is no physical home button, the Xplay 7 might come with on-screen navigation buttons.
It comes with vertical camera strip on the rear featuring triple camera sensors. However, we think it to be the dual camera setup along with LED flash. Take these details with a pinch of salt until there is an official confirmation. Last year’s Vivo Xplay 6 also came with a 5.46-inch dual curved display offering Quad HD (2560 x 1440 pixels). It is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 quad-core processor coupled with Adreno 530 GPU and 6GB of RAM. In the camera department, it sports 12MP + 5MP dual-lens camera with f/1.7 aperture, PDAF, and dual-tone LED flash.
For selfies, there is also a 16MP front facing camera with f/2.0 aperture and built-in beauty mode. The fingerprint sensor on this device is integrated into the physical home button on the front. Since the Vivo Xplay 6 was launched in November 2016, we expect the upcoming Xplay 7 to be unveiled by the end of this year. Stay tuned on Phone Radar for more details!
