At the MWC 2019, Sony unveiled the all-new Xperia 1 flagship smartphone along with Xperia 10 and Xperia 10 Plus mid-range smartphones. All the three devices come with the new CinemaWide display with longer 21:9 aspect ratio. Talking about the Xperia 1, the company only showed the demo of the Eye Autofocus of the rear camera. Apart from that, they don’t have a proper demo unit to check out the 4K HDR OLED display and other camera features.
The company didn’t even announce the price or the exact availability date of the Sony Xperia 1. However, the pre-order listing of the Xperia 1 on one of the UK-based retailers revealed the UK pricing of the device. The Sony Xperia 1 with 6GB of RAM and 128GB of internal storage will be costing GBP 707.50 without VAT and GBP 849 with VAT. As seen in our hands-on video, the device comes in Black, Purple, Grey, and White color options.
While the newly launched Samsung Galaxy S10 devices are already up for sale in most of the markets, Sony will start shipping the Xperia 1 by the end of May. In the next three months, we can expect even more competition from the upcoming smartphones like OnePlus 7. Talking about the specifications, the Sony Xperia 1 comes with a taller 6.5-inch AMOLED display with 4K (3840 x 1644 pixels) resolution. Sony still continues with the thick bezels on the top and bottom of the display.
As seen on the other flagship devices, the Xperia 1 also comes powered by 7nm Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 Mobile Platform. There are triple cameras on the rear with 12MP sensor each. The primary 12MP sensor comes with an f/1.6 aperture and 1.4μm pixel size. It can even shoot 4K HDR videos in the wider 21:9 aspect ratio. For selfies, there is an 8MP camera on the front.
