At the IFA 2016, Sony unveiled two new smartphones – Xperia XZ and Xperia X Compact. While Xperia X Compact comes with a smaller 4.6-inch HD display with high-end specifications, the flagship Xperia XZ comes with a premium build quality along with top of the notch specs, at least in the Xperia lineup. The Xperia XZ is priced at $700 in the U.S and Rs. 49,990 in India. Now the device is launched in all new Soft Pink color in China. Earlier to this, the Xperia XZ is only available in Quite Blue, Streamer Silver, and Phantom Black. As of now, Sony hasn’t announced the pricing for the new color variant, but we expect  it to cost 4999 Yuan, same as launch price of other variants. The IP65/IP68 certification which is common for Sony devices makes the Xperia XZ both water and dust resistant. It sports a 5.2-inch display with Full HD (1920 x 1080 pixels) resolution and a Gorilla Glass on top for protection from scratches and drops. Under the hood is the Snapdragon 820 SoC quad-core processor coupled with Adreno 530 GPU. It has 3GB of RAM and 64GB of internal storage that can be expanded additionally upto 256GB. While internationally there is another variant with 32GB of internal storage.

The device that will be launching in India is a dual SIM variant with 4G LTE support. Talking about the rear camera, there is a 23MP Exmor RS sensor on this device with triple image sensing technology and 5-axis active stabilization. For selfies, there is a 13MP front camera with f/2.0 aperture. It is backed by a 2,900mAh non-removable battery with Quick Charge support. Connectivity options include 4G, VoLTE, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.2, NFC, GPS/GLONASS, and a USB Type-C port. In India, it will be launched in Forest Blue, Platinum, and Mineral Black color options. The device measures 146 x 72 x 8.1 mm and weighs 161 grams.

The fingerprint sensor is placed on the right edge of the device, we first saw this kind of placement with the Xperia Z5 series. There is also dedicated shutter button on this device. While the Xperia XZ runs on Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow based Xperia UI, it will soon receive the Android 7.0 Nougat update with several new features like side-by-side multitasking, quick reply, and new animations. Currently, the company is testing beta update of the Android 7.0 Nougat on few of their recently launched devices in Japan. The Xperia X, Xperia Z, and Xperia XZ might be first Sony devices to run on the latest Android 7.0 Nougat OS.
