From the last few years, Sony smartphones aren’t doing well in this highly competitive world and 2016 isn’t any exception. Not even one Sony smartphone launched in 2016 has generated remarkable sales for the company. Unlike HTC or LG, there are aren’t even any affordable smartphones from the Sony. The CES 2017 is just a few weeks away, and now we got some information about a couple of Sony smartphones. The Xperia smartphones with the model numbers G3121 and G3112 are rumored to be unveiled at the upcoming CES event. Both these devices got certified by a Russian regulatory body in October. Today, the company has officially announced the schedule for its CES 2017 press conference. The event will be held on January 4th in Las Vegas at 5 pm PST.

We expect both the G3121 and G3112 smartphones to be announced on that same day. Sony also mentioned that the event will be live streamed globally. While we normally expect the new flagship device in the new year to come with latest processors, but Sony might be still sticking with the Snapdragon 820 processors. Recently, HTC also launched HTC 10 Evo powered by the last year’s Snapdragon 810 octa-core processor. The Snapdragon 810 SoC isn’ just old but also a failure processor. Though Qualcomm already announced the Snapdragon 835 SoC to be available in early 2016, we also have the Snapdragon 821 processor which is an upgraded variant of the Snapdragon 820. Out of the two devices, one will be sporting a 5.2-inch display whereas the other one comes with a 5.5-inch display.

The earlier leaks suggested the 5.2-inch variant to feature a Full HD (1920 x 1080 pixels) resolution panel whereas the larger 5.5-inch variant might come with 4K resolution. Till date, Sony is the only manufacturer to launch a smartphone with 4K resolution display. Last year’s Xperia Z5 Premium came with a 5.5-inch display with 4K UHD (3840 x 2160 pixels) resolution offering a pixel density of 806 ppi. Talking about the upcoming Xperia G3121 and G3112 smartphones, these devices will also include 4GB of RAM. As of now, the Xperia XZ is the company’s flagship device available in the market. It was officially launched at the IFA 2016 held in September this year. The device sports a 5.2-inch Full HD display and is protected by a Gorilla Glass 4. It comes powered by a Snapdragon 820 quad-core processor underclocked at 1.6GHz.

There is 3GB of RAM and 32GB/64GB of internal storage on this device. It also sports a MicroSD card slot for further expansion of storage additionally upto 200GB.The device also includes 23MP rear camera, 13MP selfie camera, and a 2,900mAh battery. Much like any other Sony smartphone, the Xperia XZ also comes with an IP68 certification making it water and dust resistant. Though the device came with Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow out of the box, Sony has already released the Android 7.0 Nougat update for the Xperia XZ along with Xperia X Performance. Sony has launched this device in India in October for a price of Rs. 49,990 and is available online via Amazon India.
