The smartphone camera-based messaging platform Snapchat is reportedly all set to venture into a new gaming platform. Snapchat had earlier released few AR-based games within the app, but the latest reports suggest Snapchat, developed by Snap Inc. is having plans to introduce its new gaming platform for developers in April.

As reported by Cheddar, Snapchat is developing a new mobile gaming platform, which is supposedly codenamed ‘Project Cognac’ that will allow outside developers to design a bunch of games specifically to work within the Snapchat app. It is said that Snap Inc. is making plans to announce these new ideas at the summit organized for content and developer partners, which is scheduled on 4th of next month. The event invite also suggests the same, according to the report, the invite tagline includes ‘Less talk. More Play’. This suggests Snap Inc.’s idea of foraying into the gaming platform and last year the company had also acquired an Australia-based gaming studio, which had a hand in developing popular games like – ‘Fruit Ninja,’ says the report.

The report further states that the popular gaming platform Tencent had planned earlier to collaborate with Snap Inc. on mobile gaming as well. As stated we have to wait until the event to be held on 4th of April on what Snapchat’s Snap Inc. will bring to the table. Apart from the new gaming platform, it is believed that the company will also be announcing its new video initiatives for the Snapchat app like original shows and more.
