Smartron India to Manufacture Smartphones & Hybrid Windows Tablets with Foxconn in India

Smartron India, a technology startup based out of Bengaluru, India is all set to manufacture consumer electronics and IoT devices. The company will be partnering with Foxconn for the manufacturing the devices while the remaining aspects of the product will be under the control of Smartron. The list of devices to be manufactured includes Smartphones, Tablets, Ultrabooks, IoT devices.
They will be manufactured at the Foxconn plant in Sri City, Andhra Pradesh. Earlier to this Xiaomi, Gionee, ASUS, OnePlus had also partnered with Foxconn for manufacturing their devices in India under the ‘Make in India’ campaign. The ‘Made in India‘ Redmi 2 Prime and Redmi Note Prime are the two devices from Xiaomi that are already available in the Indian market.
OnePlus, ASUS, and Gionee had respectively launched the OnePlus X (Ceramic variant), Zenfone 2 Laser, and Gionee F103 that are manufactured in India. While 2015 had laid a strong foundation for Make in India campaign, we can see many other manufacturers to opt for making their products India. While the manufacturing of Smartron products starts from January 2016, the commercial operations will also begin from the mid-January.
The company aims to emerge as a Global Premium brand from India. A hybrid Windows tablet along with a high-end 5-inch and 5.5-inch smartphones will be launched in the second half of 2016 that can be used as remote controllers for IoT devices. The company also plans to launch 12-14 inch ultrabooks running on Windows OS that targets the Enterprise segments.
Apart from the smartphones and tablets, the others products in the catalogue includes Internet of Things (IoT) like smart cameras, smart bulbs, security devices, wireless routers, smart bands, wireless chargers and many others. Starting from the design of the hardware to UI of the software, the two R&D centres in Hyderabad and Bengaluru are already working on it.
Apart from India, the company will try to sell their devices in Russia, Southeast Asia and West Asia. Alongside the Foxconn, the Smartron is also evaluating a tie-up with Taiwan-based Wistron to set up an own manufacturing plant. Wistron, the world’s No.2 contract manufacturer only next to Foxconn that had recently set up a manufacturing plant in Noida that will be operational starting from March 2016.
