As announced earlier, Sharp launched its latest bezel-less smartphone called Aquos S2 today in China. While many companies are launching their first bezel-less smartphone in 2017, the Aquos S2 is the Sharp’s 25th smartphone to feature full-screen display. The device comes with a metal frame and glossy finish body. It will be available in Black, White, Blue, and Mint Blue color options. The Aquos S2 runs on the latest Android 7.0 Nougat out of the box with the in-house Smile UX UI laid on top.
The company is also offering the RoboS AI that was first introduced with the Sharp’s RoBoHon launched last year in Japan. On the front of the Aquos S2 is a 5.5-inch free-form display that offers Full HD+ (20140 x 1080 pixels) resolution and 550 nits of brightness. The Aquos S2 will be available in two different variants powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 630 and Snapdragon 660 processors. The high-end variant comes powered by the Snapdragon 660 processor that uses the custom Kryo cores and is built using the 14nm architecture. The other variant includes the Snapdragon 630 processor that uses the Cortex-A53 cores.
While the Snapdragon 630 powered variant offers 4GB RAM and 64GB of internal storage, the Snapdragon 660 powered variant packs 6GB RAM and 128GB of internal storage. There is also a MicroSD card slot for further expansion of storage. In the camera department, there is a dual camera setup featuring 12MP and 8MP sensors that offer f/1.75 aperture and PDAF. The dual sensors are placed vertically as seen in the leaked iPhone 8 (or iPhone X) renders.
For selfies, there is also an 8MP sensor on the front with f/2.0 aperture. It is backed by a 3.020mAh non-removable battery that supports 5V/2A fast charging using the USB Type-C port. It measures 141.8 x 72.04 x 7.9 mm and weighs 140 grams. The Sharp Aquos S2 also features the world’s narrowest fingerprint sensor. It is integrated right into the home button placed beneath the display. Connectivity options include 4G LTE, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, GPS, NFC, and a USB Type-C port.
Both the volume rocker and power button are placed on the right edge of the device. The device is currently available to pre-order, and sales begin from August 14th. Coming about the pricing, the 4GB RAM variant costs 2499 Yuan (approx $372 / Rs. 24,000) while the high-end variant with 6GB RAM will be sold for 3499 Yuan (approx $520 / Rs. 33,000). As of now, there is no information about the availability of this device in the foreign markets. Stay tuned on Phone Radar for more details!
