Samsung to send an OTA Update limiting battery charge to 60% to avoid Note 7 from Exploding

Galaxy Note 7 recall is currently in progress and it is expected that replacement units will arrive by month. But it is reported that many users still haven’t returned their old Galaxy Note 7 yet. Well, there is no possible reason as to why you won’t return your device when you are getting a new and safe unit, but that’s there. And one thing to realise here is that these devices are not safe to be used. So Samsung decided to do something about it. It is definitely company’s responsibility to make sure the users are safe.

Now the company has decided to roll out an OTA update which will limit maximum charge of the defective Note 7 batteries. This update will limit the maximum charge to only up to 60 percent which will possibly stop the explosions. But do make a note that this is not a permanent fix by any means. This is only being done, so that the users who still have the device are safe and also to kind of force them to return it, because obviously it is not recommended to use a device which cannot be charged up to 100 percent.

This new update for the Galaxy Note 7 temporarily fixing the devices will be pushed only as an obligatory solution. And once updated the device will be limited to getting a charge no more than 2,100 mAh battery. As the total capacity of the device is of 3,500 mAh battery, this is about 60 percent of it. So if you still have the device (which you shouldn’t be), then you should be getting the OTA soon, so be on a lookout for that.

Meanwhile, we are still waiting for an official confirmation from the company on any possible dates about the device’s arrive in India here. The company recently announced that they will be giving a free gear VR with the Note 7 as it is being delayed so long along with the 3,300 INR worth gift card for Oculus store.
