Samsung Launches W2017 Clamshell Smartphone with Dual AMOLED Displays



After the Galaxy Note 7 fiasco, Samsung has recently launched its first 6GB RAM smartphone, Galaxy  C9 Pro in China. Now, a new smartphone that has been in leaks for the last few months is made official. It is the Samsung W2017 clamshell smartphone which will replace the two years old Samsung W2016. Just like its predecessor, the W2017 also comes with the similar flip phone form factor, but with much better internals. It runs on Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow OS with customized TouchWiz UI laid on top. While the W2016 came with dual 3.9-inch Super AMOLED displays with WXGA (1280 x 768 pixels) resolution, the all new W2017 sports dual 4.2-inch Super AMOLED displays with Full HD (1920 x 1080 pixels) resolution.

Under the hood, there is a 64-bit Snapdragon 820 quad-core processor coupled with Adreno 530 GPU. The device also includes 4GB of RAM and 64GB of internal storage which can be expanded further upto 256GB. Talking about the cameras, the W2017 sports a 12MP dual pixel rear camera with f/1.7 aperture and LED flash. This is the same sensor that can be found on Galaxy Note 7 which additionally supports with OIS. For selfies, there is a 5MP front camera with f/1.9 aperture. It supports dual SIM dual standby with the help of hybrid SIM slot where the second slot can be used for either memory card or the secondary SIM. The The device supports 4G and VoLTE but only limited primary SIM slot, the secondary SIM works on just 2G network.

Connectivty options include 4G, Wi-Fi 2.4GHz & 5GHz, Bluetooth 4.1, GPS, NFC, and MicroUSB 2.0 port. It is backed by a 2,300mAh non-removable battery that is rated to last upto 208 hours on standby mode. The device also supports wireless charging with fast charging. On the back of the device, we can also find the fingerprint sesnor that can also be used for Samsung Pay. The W2017 measures 127.8 x 61.4 x 15.8 mm and weighs 208 grams. It will be available in Gold and Black color options. The pricing and availability of the device aren’t announced at the launch event but will be soon available through China Telecom. Few rumors suggested the device to cost amost 20,000 Yuan which converts to $3,000 or Rs. 1,97,500. We will update the official pricing once it is announced in China.
