Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge+, Note 5 to get Marshmallow Update next month

Few of the smartphone manufacturers had announced their plans for the roll-out of Android 6.0 Marshmallow update for their smartphones. LG, Motorola, and HTC are few manufacturers that have already updated few of their devices. Samsung is the one manufacturer that hasn’t announced any plans for the Marshmallow update for the Galaxy line-up of devices. Until now there is no word from the company regarding any timeline for rolling out the update, but a leaked image suggest the list of devices to receive the update soon.

As per the image, the Galaxy Note 5 (SM-N920G), Galaxy S6 Edge+ (SM-G928G), Galaxy S6 (Sm-G920I), Galaxy S6 Edge (SM-G925I), Galaxy Note 4 (SM-N910G), and Galaxy Note Edge (SM-N915G) are the devices in Phase-1 that are confirmed to receive the Marshmallow update starting from December 2015. While the UI might look same as the earlier OS since the devices come with Samsung customized TouchWiz UI.

The Galaxy S5 (SM-G900G) and Galaxy Alpha (SM-G850Y) are the other two devices in the Phase-1, but the are still waiting for the approval. Once the complete Phase-1 devices updated to the latest Android OS, the Galaxy A series and Galaxy E series devices will receive the update. Though there is no specific timeline mentioned for these devices, we can expect them to receive in the first half of 2015.

List of devices in the Phase-2 includes Galaxy A8 (SM-A8000), Galaxy A7 (SM-A700F), Galaxy A5 (SM-A500F), Galaxy A3 (SM-A300F), Galaxy E7 (SM-E700H), and Galaxy E5 (SM-E500H). We can expect few others device to receive the Marshmallow update in Phase-3, which yet to be tested. The latest Android Marshmallow come with several improvements and few new features like Doze mode, Google On Tap, app based permissions and few others.

If you want to taste the latest Android flavour earlier than the official roll-out, then developers at XDA made few ROM’s available to flash that are based on the Android 6.0 Marshmallow.
