Along with Mukesh Ambani’s Jio 4G, his brother Anil Ambani also upgraded his Reliance Communication’s CDMA services to GSM using 4G bandwidth. Many customers have faced issues while migrating to GSM and even the company has offered 10GB high-speed internet for just Rs. 93 to lure the customers in selceted circles. Unlike the Jio 4G services, RCom 4G SIM will work even when there is no 4G network available. However, the speeds will be limited to either 3G/2G based on the available network. While the CDMA phone users got an option to get the GSM SIM, now the company is working to enchance the fixed wireless phone market by launching an all new 4G VoLTE fixed wireless phone.

Even Jio is rumred to bring 4G VoLTE supported feature phones in the coming months. Today, they have launched the HomePhone that works with RCom 4G VoLTE SIM. It is the first of its kind phone to launch in India. The RCom HomePhone looks similar to the landline phones but doesn’t need any wires. It comes with a 3.5-inch touchscreen and runs on Android 5.1 Lollipop OS. The HomePhone can be also used as Wi-Fi hotspot and supports upto 8 devices at any point of time. Just like the Jio 4G SIM, the RCom also offers high definition voice call clarity. Even the users can send/receive SMS through this phone.

The Antenna of the HomePhone comes with dual functionality, it can receive the 4G signal and also emits the Wi-Fi signal when the hotspot mode is turned on. The company is also offering two plans with this device – 4G Smart Life 299 & 4G Smart Life 499. The 4G Smart Life 299 priced at Rs. 299 includes 300 minutes of local and STD voice calls along with 2GB of 4G data. The 4G Smart Life 499 comes with the same 300 local & STD minutes and 4GB of 4G internet data. After the free voica call minutes, every outgoing call will be charged at 40P/minute. The incoming roaming calls are said to be deducted from the give 300 minutes free limit.

Unlike the landline phones, the HomePhone can be carried anywhere in the country just like the smartphone. Apart from that, there is no information about the data charges, the company might offers the same 4G plans that are avaialble for mobile phone users. There are no free SMS available with any of these two plans and are charged separately at 25p for local and 38p for STD messages. Based on the Zauba listing, only 60 devices of the 4G VoLTE HomePhone are imported where each unit is costing almost Rs. 3,000. Though it runs on Androdi 5.1 Lollipop, We dont expect the Phone to come with smartphone like features. The only smart feature mentioned in the official listing is that it can cast the youtube videos on the smart TV.

Seems good, a phone that can also be used as wireless hotspot is very nice feature. Plans seems okay. But the question is how many units are they gonna sell if its priced at 3.5 or 4K.

  • If this one is out, a VoLTE enabled feature phone should not take much time! 🙂

Reliance is shaping the future of digital India 🙂 Kudos to Reliance..
