Qualcomm’s New High Mid-range Snapdragon 712 Chipset Introduced

Qualcomm has announced its new successor to the high mid-range Snapdragon 710 chipset – the Snapdragon 712 SoC, as the name suggests its a minor upgrade from the predecessor, which has powered some notable mid-range smartphones. OEMs like Nokia, Oppo, Vivo, and Xiaomi utilized this chipset last year, and hopefully, the new 712 SoC will most likely be featuring in those respective successor smartphones this year.

Digging into the specifications – they are quite similar to the predecessor, for instance, the 712 is still a 10nm based processor with 64-bit architecture; however, Qualcomm claims this SoC would be 10 percent more powerful than the earlier. Further, the 712 SoC also features 8X Kyro 360 CPU (Cortex A75) and has Adreno 616 GPU. The Snapdragon X15 modem from the previous 710 SoC remains the same with the successor as well. Despite the similar specs, the clock speeds are slightly improved from 2.2GHz to 2.3GHz. The new chipset is promised to deliver 35 percent graphics improvement than its predecessor and is expected to handle Android’s top gaming titles much better.

Moreover, the new Qualcomm Snapdragon 712 SoC comes with new audio technologies – TrueWireless Stereo Plus alongside Broadcast Audio and also retains the 7120 SoC’s Aqstic and aptX audio technologies as well. Unlike the 710, the 712 SoC gains a bump in Quick charge as well, the chipset can now support Quick Charge 4.0+. The other specifications include ISO – 32MP single or 20MP dual cameras, Bluetooth 5.0. As stated, this year’s mid-range smartphones from Nokia, Xiaomi, and OPPO would most likely be featuring this new Snapdragon 712 SoC.
