At the MWC Shanghai 2018, Qualcomm has three new mid-range Mobile Platforms – Snapdragon 632, Snapdragon 439 and Snapdragon 429. With these chipsets, the company is aiming to offer superior graphics and artificial intelligence (AI) capabilities even on budget smartphones. While the Snapdragon 632 is built on the 14nm FinFET process, the Snapdragon 439 and 429 are built on the 12nm FinFET process.
These new Snapdragon chipsets also support Dual SIM Dual VoLTE for using two VoLTE-enabled SIMs at once. Earlier this year, the company introduced the custom Kryo CPU in the Snapdragon 636. Now, the new Snapdragon 632 becomes the latest Snapdragon 600-series processor to use the Kryo cores. It comes 4x high-performance cores clocked at 1.8GHz and 4x power-efficient cores are also clocked at 1.8GHz.
Compared to the Snapdragon 626, the new Snapdragon 632 is said to offer 40% higher performance. As seen on the Snapdragon 625 and 450 chipsets, the Snapdragon 632 is also accompanied by the same Adreno 506 GPU. The processor supports 4K video recording and sports Snapdragon X9 LTE modem for faster LTE speeds. In terms of cameras, the Snapdragon 626 supports up to 24MP single-camera or 13MP dual cameras.
On the display front, it limits upto Full HD+ resolution. Now, let’s talk about the Snapdragon 439 and 429 Mobile Platforms. While the Snapdragon 439 octa-core processor comes with 8x Cortex-A53 cores clocked at 1.95GHz, the Snapdragon 429 quad-core processor features 4x Cortex-A53 cores clocked at 1.95GHz. Both these new processors will offer 25% better performance than their predecessors.
While the Snapdragon 439 sports Adreno 505 GPU, the Snapdragon 429 comes with Adreno 504 GPU. These new Snapdragon 400-series chipsets include X6 LTE modem that delivers up to 150 Mbps download speeds and 75 Mbps upload speeds. While both the chipsets support up to 8MP dual cameras, the Snapdragon 439 can feature a 21MP single camera and the Snapdragon 429 is limited to the 16MP single camera.
As of now, there is no information about the exact availability details of the smartphones powered by these new chipsets. However, the smartphone manufacturers will bring the smartphones powered by these new chipsets by the end of this year. Stay tuned on PhoneRadar for more details!
