Qualcomm reportedly testing new low-cost SoC for Android Go Smartphones

The renowned chipset maker Qualcomm is known for its powerful Snapdragon processors in the world of Android smartphones and as well as the wearable devices. The company produces a wide range of chipsets for the Android mobile industry where the phones range from entry-level devices to the prominent high-end devices. All the major Android OEMs utilize the chipsets manufactured by Qualcomm.

This well-known chipmaker is believed to be in works of developing a new chipset without the Snapdragon branding catered to cheap or entry-level smartphone handsets. Precisely, the chipset named QM215 is said to be in development targeting the entry-level smartphones and also it is said to be serving the Android Go smartphones as well. Android Go smartphones are low-powered devices that are catered to budget segments with Google’s latest Android software offerings.

The report further suggests that this new SoC from Qualcomm is a quad-core chipset with 1.3GHz CPU and a 650 MHz graphics unit. The QM215 is also said to be falling in between Qualcomm’s already existing Snapdragon 410 and 425 platforms. Furthermore, Qualcomm is rumored to be working with a well-known smartphone maker to put out the first smartphone featuring this QM215 chipset.

The other details of the QM215 chipset imply that it would be holding RAM up to 1 or 2GB and internal storage of 16GB. This new low-cost Qualcomm chipset is said to be in direct competition with MediaTek chip maker, who has already been making smartphones in India with its low-cost chipsets as well.
