Pixel 2 & Pixel XL 2 Smartphones Are Said To Ditch The 3.5mm Headphone Jack

Google is said to be working on the new Pixel smartphones for 2017. We have seen a bunch of rumors so far and most of them are pointing towards a very appealing device. However, we now have a new report which suggests that the upcoming Pixel 2 and the Pixel XL 2 smartphones will ditch the 3.5mm headphone jack. Yes, get ready to buy some dongles if you are planning on picking up a Pixel 2 or Pixel XL 2.

According to the source, the 2017 Pixel smartphones will ditch the 3.5mm headphone jack. This means that users will either have to buy dongles (if Google decides not to bundle them), rely on wireless earphones and headphones or alternatively, you can also buy earphones and headphones that connect through the USB Type -C port. Yes, this is not the most appealing thing about the smartphone, but, hey, we all knew this was coming at some point.

This piece of information falls in-line with a few other previous reports which stated the possibility of the same. Google, being a major player in the Android eco-system adapting to this trend, we can certainly expect other manufacturers will also follow the same with their devices.

In case you forgot, Apple was amongst the first ones to ditch the 3.5mm headphones jack on the iPhone 7 and the iPhone 7 Plus last year. Following this, most other smartphone manufacturers also started ditching headphone jack, in favor of USB Type-C connector. While this is a step in the right direction as USB Type- C is the future, it is also equally annoying. It literally renders all your existing peripherals with a 3.5mm connector useless.

As mentioned earlier, you have a few options to choose from and you can still make this work. But there is no denying that it takes some getting used to. However, do make a note that this is not necessarily a bad thing since even the wireless earphones and headphones are really great. It’s just there is a learning curve with charging it, etc. Having said that, we hope there is be far better offerings of the wireless earphones and headphones in the market in future.
