Philips had announced not one but two new smartphones, Philips S616 and Philips V787 in China. The displays on current smartphones come with high brightness and also emits a lot of blue light that strain the viewers eyes. Hence, Philips came up with new technology called SoftBlue that reduces the blue light by 86% thus making them Anti-Blue Light (ABL) smartphones.

Talking about the S616, it comes with a 5.5-inch IPS display with Full HD resolution and is powered by the 1.3GHz MediaTek MT6753 octa-core processor. The device includes 2GB of RAM and 16GB of internal storage; there is also a MicroSD card slot for storage expansion up to 128GB. The device supports dual SIM dual standby expected to offers 4G LTE.

It has a 13MP rear camera with LED flash and an aperture of f/2.0, on the front, it has a 5MP selfie camera with wide angle lens. There is a 3,000mAh removable battery that has been a new trend on the latest device for providing better battery life. On the other hand, the Philips Sapphire Life V787 comes with a larger 5.5-inch Full HD display and features same specifications as the Philips Sapphire S616.

The battery on this device is increased to a whopping 5,000mAh battery that can give up to 47 hours of talk time by using the company’s patented Xenium technology. It also comes with the same 13MP rear camera but includes Phase Detection Auto Focus (PDAF) technology that can focus in just 0.2 second.

Both the devices run on Android 5.1 Lollipop with Philips’s own UI on top of it. While many manufacturers are focusing on improving the camera and the design of the smartphones, it’s good to see the from Philips for focusing on anti-harmful features. The S616 is priced at 1,399 Yuan (approx $222 / Rs. 14,500) and will be available starting from November. There is no pricing mentioned for the V787, but it will be made available by the end of November. Stay tuned for more updates…!

(Update: We got an official confirmation from the company that Sapphire was not added to the official device names. Hence the Philips Sapphire S616 and Philips Sapphire Life V787 are changed to Philips S616 and Philips V787 respectively)
