OPPO & Vivo continue to dominate over Lenovo & Xiaomi on the Global Market Shares

With the huge success of Galaxy S7 & S7 Edge, Samsung had seen positive growth in the Q1 2016. Now in Q2 2016, TrendForce report suggests the Samsung market to be decreased, but that doesn’t affect the company dominance over the smartphone market. In Q2 2016, the company has been very aggressive in launching the devices like 2016 Galaxy J series and all new Galaxy C series; however, the Galaxy C5 and Galaxy C7 are still exclusive to China. But with the success of 4-inch iPhone SE, Apple has seen a slight growth over the Q1 2016.
But the best part is that OPPO and Vivo, which are on the rise in the Q1 2016, are still dominating over other Chinese manufacturers apart from Huawei. The Lenovo (including Motorola) and Xiaomi which more popular in China and other foreign markets are not even in the top 6 list of global brands. Samsung and Apple lead the list with 24.5% and 15.1% respectively. Huawei with its 9.2% market share stays much ahead of other Chinese brands.
OPPO and Vivo, which are the fast growing smartphone brands in 2016, are on 4th and 6th positions with their market share of 5.6% and 4.7% respectively. LG G5 along with the K and X series helped LG to slightly improve its market share from 5.2% to 5.4% and occupied on 5th position. Coming to the Chinese market, Samsung and Apple are left out from the top 5 list. Huawei with 20.8% showed its dominance in its home country.
OPPO and Vivo settled for 3rd and 4th positions in China. Lenovo and Xiaomi are the only two brands that have improved their markets share compared to Q1 2016, but are still limited to 4th and 5th spots. In the Q2 2016, a total of 315 million smartphones are produced which is 8.9% increase over Q1 2016 and 3.2% increase over Q2 2015. Chinese brands have mostly contributed to those numbers when compared to others, to be precise it is 139 million.
With the Samsung Galaxy Note 7 and Apple iPhone 7 launch, we can see both the company to increase their market shares in the next quarter. While in Q3 2016, the Lenovo Moto Z series will help to continue to improve their market share. Coming to Xiaomi, it had already announced to launch five new smartphones in the second half of 2016 and the first device, Redmi Pro will be launched on the July 27 in China. Though the Chinses brands are already fiercely competing against each other, it will get more heated in the coming months. So stay tuned!
