The Chinese smartphone manufacturer Oppo yesterday launched its new smartphone called the R9s along with the R9s Plus. If you didn’t know this already, these two new devices are essentially the successors to the existing R9 and the R9 Plus smartphones. Both of them were a selfie focused smartphone with a 16-megapixel front facing shooter. Now that might ring some other bells as well because these two weren’t the only smartphones which were selfie focused.
The company also launched the Oppo F1 Plus smartphone back in March this year. Yes, this smartphone is also known for its great selfie capturing capabilities with that 16-megapixel front facing shooter. And with that being said, that pretty much leaves us with quite a lot of options to choose from the company. And on the same thought, let’s take a look at the new smartphone launched by the company yesterday and see if it is any good against the F1 Plus, which they launched back in March. We are going to compare them based on the specs and other hardware features available to us right now.
In terms of the design, both the smartphone looks identical. This goes to say that there are no significant changes in the design department. As a matter of fact, if someone is holding either of this phones, you will not be able to tell the difference until you closely examine them. The only noticeable difference here are the antenna lines on the new R9s smartphone. As you can see, it is distinctly visible on the F1 Plus smartphone. Whereas the same is not the case with the R9s as it adopts the new design for the same.
In terms of the color options, the new R9s will also be available in the new Black variant. On the other hand, you will get only Gold or Rose Gold with the F1 Plus. Both the devices are made out of metal only, so in hand feel is also going to be pretty much the same. The F1 Plus comes in only at a 6.6mm thickness and the newly launched R9s smartphone comes in at 6.58mm thickness. Both the of them are very similar on the dimension side also, and they also weigh exactly the same. Well, if you are looking to buy the best looking among the both, then you can select either of them since there isn’t much of a difference.
The display on the newly launched Oppo R9s smartphone is of 5.5-inches in size which is an FHD display with a resolution of 1920 x 1080. On the display department as well, both of them have arguably have the same display. The only difference being the F1 Plus comes with Corning Gorilla Glass 4 on top and the R9s comes with 2.5D curved glass display which uses the Corning Gorilla Glass 5. What does that mean? Let me tell you that there is not going to be any difference in terms of content consumption. The in-hand feel will be a little different since the 2.5D curved glass will nicely mould over on the edges giving you a premium feel.
This is the only category where we can see some difference in both the device. Yes, obviously the newly laucnhed R9s is going to sport better specs when compared to the existing Oppo F1 Plus. Talking about the power, the new R9s is powered by Qualcomm MSM8953 Snapdragon 625 which is an Octa-core 2.0 GHz Cortex-A53 processor. The F1 Plus, on the other hand, is powered by the Mediatek MT6755 Helio P10 which is an Octa-core 2.0 GHz Cortex-A53. Both of them packs 4GB of RAM which should be good enough for day-to-day usage. And also, both of them have 64GB of internal storage onboard which is expandable up to 128GB via a microSD card.
In terms of the camera, the F1 Plus and the R9s both have a 16-megapixel front facing selfie shooter and this is the USP of both the devices. At the back, the F1 Plus sports a 13-megapixel sensor and the R9s sports the 16-megapixel sensor giving it the edge over the other one. The rear facing camera on the R9s has an apperture size of f/1.7 and it is a Sony IMX398 Sensor. Other features which you see here are EIS, 6P Lens, Geo-tagging, Touch Focus, Face Detection, Panorama, HDR.
The rear facing camera on the F1 Plus is also good but it has an apperture size of only f/2.2, so you are definitely going to get better low-light images, etc. with the R9s smartphone. But aaain, if you are just an average clicker and don’t prefer to go over board on the camera department, then even the F1 Plus is going to do just fine. With that being said, this is something that has to be decided by individual users. Also, the F1 Plus smartphone is kept powered by a 2,850 mAh battery and the R9s on the other hand is powered by a 3,010 mAh battery. Not a significant leap here, but it is good to have the extra edge on the battery.
With that being said, both the cameras and the battery performance are something which can be talked about only after a good amount of usage. If you are interested to know more about them, then be sure to stay tuned for more info on them as we will be update once we get to use the device and test them out side by side.
With all that comparison out of the way, let’s see which one you should pick. The F1 Plus smartphone currently retails for about 24,990 INR and the R9s on the other hand is yet to be announced for India. But in China the smartphone is launched at 2799 Yuan which roughly translates to about 27,700 INR. If that is the price we are looking at, then it is safe to say that you can save some money here and go for the F1 Plus smartphone. Yes, if you want that better camera which comes with the R9s, then you should totally pick it up but if not, then you are not really missing out on much here with the F1 Plus smartphone. Everyday performance is going to be just about the same and you will not notice any difference in the performance or anything on that line whatsoever.
