Oppo R5 India

Oppo is going to launch the Oppo R5, the slimmest smartphone from the company with a thickness of 4.85mm, and the launch in India is during the end of December. After making its debut in China recently, the R5 now is being officially brought into India to compete with the Gionee Elife S5.1 and the upcoming Vivo X5 Max, with the slim smartphone trend picking up lately.

Update: It is official now, that Oppo has launched the R5 smartphone for Rs. 29990, and the device will be available for pre-booking from January 1st.

Although the R5 isn’t one that you can call a flagship, the specs are not compromised at all. On the front, there is a 5.2-inch AMOLED display with the Full HD resolution, and internally the Oppo R5 is powered by the Snapdragon 615 processor, an octa-core chipset clocking at 2.1 GHz, and that is added by 2GB RAM and 16GB internal storage.

The popping out camera on the back isn’t included in the thickness mentioned by the company, and that couldn’t be shrunk more than that for the 13-megapixel lens with Sony’s sensor. There is a 5-megapixel front facing camera included for the selfies.

According to the PR we received “In addition to the smartphone’s thickness, another major highlight of the phone is the adoption of higher-strength stainless steel in place of the commonly used aluminum alloy to make its unique micro-arc frame. The process used to create a more rugged and durable frame lets this ultra-thin phone “say no to bending” and overcomes the weakness generally found in ultra-thin phones. Now consumers can slip the phone into their pockets and sit at ease without fear of it being bent.”

So, the expected launch time is around the end of this month, and according to the company, the Oppo R5 is to be launched for a price between Rs. 25,000 to Rs. 30,000. Worth the price? you decide. But the price is well understandable, given the fact that the device is packed in with some good specs that add up for a good user experience.

No doubt R5 is one of most well-built and beautiful smartphone one could ever see, but a price range of 25k-30k seems a little hefty to me. Clearly they are targeting all the rich crowd. The protruding camera is really a turn-off but there’s nothing we can do about it, and R5 completely steals the show in terms of design. Setting aside the low 16 gigs of internal storage, rest of the specs are pretty decent. Not value for money, but yeah pretty decent. The stainless steel micro-arc frame surely gives the device a much needed sturdiness.. coz with a thickness of just 4.85mm it is very much prone to bending.

  • R5 may not be the slimmest of the slim 3, but to me it certainly is the strongest. Another look at this phone still gives me good feelings. Its premium design is nice on the eyes and the protruding camera doesn’t hinder the R5 aesthetically. It’s just a sleek well designed smartphone. To make it even better specs weren’t compromised; they’re still some great power in this device and more than the Vivo X5 Max and the Gionee elife 5.1. Its definitely not a flagship but I’m accepting of the price.

May not be the slimmest but it is definetly a good looking phone. I love the new ad about it and it shows slimmess with strenth. The phone looks very premium and the build is top notch. The metal build is awesome and the different shades of the color are also a great addition, The UI is decent but that is their great weakness. It would be great if it was more user friendly. The phone is also great according to the price but it would be great if the price was a bit lower because it is a chinese brand. Well soon i see OPPOP as a big company selling alot of phones in North America with prior launch with the ONe PLus

  • About 475$ The price is firm but the design of this phone is stunning!! It is a very appealing look and I’m excite about the update. I really want to know how it fares in the market! Jan1. is really close now so a review of this is imminent!

  • Well I think brands like xiaomi and this etc are launching their smartphones before the arrival of Micromax Yu (,yureka) which has great specs with great ROM ( CyanogenMod) which is just a boom to devices .And also rooting on YU is allowed and it not voids warranty. So I think they just want to grab customers before micromax Yu take over.
