OnePlus 7 vs OnePlus 7 Pro – Specs Comparison

OnePlus came up with two new flagship smartphones this year – OnePlus 7 and OnePlus 7 Pro. The OnePlus 7 is the regular OnePlus flagship smartphone with the latest hardware and an aggressive price tag. For the very first time, the company also stepped into the ultra-premium segment with the new OnePlus 7 Pro smartphone. It costs more than OnePlus 7 and also offers much better features. Let’s do a detailed comparison to give you a much greater insight into the 2019 OnePlus flagship smartphones.

Design

Both the OnePlus 7 devices come with glass sandwich design with aluminum mid-frame. While the OnePlus 7 comes in Mirror Gray and Red color options, the OnePlus 7 Pro will be available in Nebula Blue, Mirror Gray, and Almond color options. The curved body offers a nice grip to hold the device. Just like the previous OnePlus smartphones, these two new devices also come with a protruding rear camera.

From the front, the OnePlus 7 looks very much similar to the OnePlus 6T but comes with a larger earpiece. Talking about the OnePlus 7 Pro, the device offers a true full view experience with a whopping 93% screen-to-body ratio. Unlike the OnePlus 7, the Pro variant also has curved edges on the front. The OnePlus 7 Pro is also 0.6mm thicker and 24 grams heavier than the non-Pro variant.

Processor

OnePlus has opted for the latest Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 Mobile Platform for both the new flagships. At Rs 32,999, the OnePlus 7 will surely be the most affordable Snapdragon 855-powered smartphone at least for the next couple of months. It is built on TSMC’s 7nm FinFET node and packs Kryo 485 CPU and Adreno 640 GPU. With the fine-tuned Oxygen OS, the device will be offering lag-free experience even with the heavy usage.

While the OnePlus 7 comes in 6GB + 128GB and 8GB + 256GB storage variants, the OnePlus 7 Pro offers up to 12GB of RAM and up to 256GB of internal storage. The 10-layer Liquid Cooling System will help the OnePlus 7 Pro to offer stable experience even while using the device for a longer duration. When talking about the performance, there shouldn’t be much difference between both these devices.

Display

OnePlus 7 sports the same 6.41-inch Optic AMOLED which we have already seen on the last year’s OnePlus 6T smartphone. For the OnePlus 7 Pro, the company went for the premium display which also earned them the highest ever rating by Displaymate. While the OnePlus 7 sports waterdrop notch display, the OnePlus 7 Pro come with a true bezel-display with thin china at the bottom. Unlike the many other ultra-premiums smartphones, OnePlus went ahead and added 90Hz refresh rate for the Pro variant which makes the whole experience smoother.

While the OnePlus 7 settles with Full HD+ resolution, the large 6.67-inch Fluid AMOLED display on the OnePlus 7 Pro offers Quad HD+ resolution. The display on the OnePlus 7 Pro is also HDR10 and HDR+ certified. However, both the devices support sRGB and DCI-P3 color gamuts. The displays also feature a larger in-display fingerprint scanner which is said to be faster and more accurate than before. On the top, the devices also offer the latest Corning Gorilla Glass 6 protection.

Camera

Talking about the OnePlus 7 Pro, the device comes with a triple camera setup on the rear and a pop-up camera on the top. It sports 48MP primary sensor with f/1.6 aperture, a 16MP ultra-wide-angle sensor with f/2.2 aperture, and an 8MP telephoto sensor with f/2.4 aperture. The primary sensor and telephoto sensors also have OIS support.  The OnePlus 7 Pro is able to offer 117-degree ultra-wide-angle view and 3x lossless zoom.

Coming to OnePlus 7, it sports 48MP + 5MP dual camera setup with f/1.7 aperture and OIS. The non-Pro variant lacks both the telephoto sensor and wide-angle sensor. However, both the devices support 4K video recording up to 60 fps and slow-mo videos up to 720p at 480 fps. For selfies, the OnePlus 7 and 7 Pro share the same 16MP Sony IMX471 sensor with f/2.0 aperture and EIS. While it is placed on the front on the OnePlus 7, the OnePlus 7 Pro sports pop-up style selfie camera.

Software

Both the new OnePlus 7 smartphones will be running on the latest Android 9.0 Pie based Oxygen OS 9.0 out of the box. While the device also supports Android Q Beta 3 update, most of the core Oxygen OS features are still missing as it is based AOSP build. Unlike the OnePlus 7, the OnePlus 7 Pro comes with options to choose the resolution and refresh rate. Apart from these two options, there won’t be any other differences in the software font.

The company newly introduced Fnatic mode which will basically an advanced version to the gaming mode which is already available on previous OnePlus smartphones.  The devices now come built-in screen recorder and a new Zen Mode which will help in restricting the continuous smartphone usage. In the coming months, the device will also get India-exclusive features like Work-Life Balance, Smart SMS app, and more.

Verdict

With the OnePlus 7, the company breaks its tradition of pricing the new flagship smartphone costlier than its predecessors. The OnePlus 7 priced at Rs 32,999 is currently the most affordable Snapdragon 855-powered smartphone in the Indian market. However, the company’s first attempt into the ultra-premium segment is also worth a look despite the huge difference in the pricing. The OnePlus 7 Pro is still affordable than many other 2019 flagship smartphones. The OnePlus 7 won’t disappoint anyone who is just looking for the raw performance from the device. While the OnePlus 7 brings in few compromises to the table, the OnePlus 7 Pro packs the top-notch hardware in every segment for that extra money.
