Well, OnePlus has launched the successor of the OnePlus 6 dubbed as OnePlus 6T which has been in the news from long. After the successes of the OnePlus 6, the company will be hoping to get a similar kind of response with its new flagship device that has been launched in New York today. OnePlus has the tendency of releasing a new phone every 6 months or so and for almost a similar price segment. The OnePlus 6 was announced on 16th of May and now, following its trend, there is another device around 6 months period.

Let us compare these two handsets and see where these stack up against each other. The Indian launch of the OnePlus 6T is scheduled for 30th October and the pricing will also be announced at the launch event. Moreover, the OnePlus 6 was available in Midnight Black, Mirror Black, Silk White, Amber Red while the 6T will be available in Midnight Black and Mirror Black options.

Design & Display

Both the device comes with a premium look and feel when it comes to the design as they flaunt their glass body and come with a protective case along the device itself. With curved edges, both the devices are easy to hold and features similar design except for the fingerprint sensor which has been moved from the back on to the display. The OnePlus 6 came with a Notch which can be hidden while the 6T comes with a smaller notch or so-called a water drop notch which is tiny.

The OnePlus 6T measures 157.5 x 74.8 x 8.2 mm in dimensions and weighs 185 grams while its predecessor measures 155.7 x 75.4 x 7.8 mm and weighs 177 grams. The volume rockers and power buttons on the 6T are also placed in the same position as it was the case with OnePlus 6. Apart from these there not many notable differences we can find from these handsets.

Coming to the display of the OnePlus 6, it comes with a 6.28-inch AMOLED display with a screen resolution of 1080 x 2280 pixels and 19:9 aspect ratio. The newer device comes with a slightly bigger display of 6.41-inches with the same AMOLED screen but with 1080 x 2340 pixel resolution and 19.5:9 aspect ratio giving out a similar pixel density of 402 ppi. Both the handsets are protected with Corning Gorilla Glass on top and the screen-to-body ratio is 83.8 % and 85.7 % respectively.

Performance

Both the handsets are fuelled by the same QualcommSnapdragon 845 SoC with eight cores and coupled with Adreno 630 GPU. The OnePlus 6T came out of the box with Android 8.1 Oreo, although it got updated to the latest Android 9.0 Pie later, while the 6T comes directly with Android Pie Operating system and Oxygen OS 9.0. The former was launched in 6GB and 8GB RAM variants while the latter is also available in 6GB and 8GB RAM option along with 128GB and 256GB of storage. With the internal hardware being the same, we would not find any difference in the performance level of these devices.

Camera

Both the handsets will feature 16MP + 20MP dual rear camera setup on the rear with Sony IMX519 sensor has LED flash also. The other features include 2160p video recording at 30 and 6t0 fps for both and come with Dual Pixel PDAF, OIS, and f/1.7 aperture size. It is the same case with the front camera also, as both of them feature a 16MP camera, so there is no difference while comparing the camera specs of both the handsets.

Battery

The battery on the OnePlus 6 was same as the OnePlus 5T that was powered with a 3300mAh battery while there is a bump of 400mAh with the OnePlus 6T as it powered with 3700mAh battery. Both the devices support fast charging technology and come with Dash chargers and the battery are non-removable. Moreover, both of them come with 5V 4A 20W adapters and come with USB 2.0 Type-C ports. Even here there isn’t much of a difference between these two handsets except for the battery size.

Verdict

There isn’t much of a difference between both the OnePlus 6 and 6T smartphone as they feature similar hardware and software and also the same camera sensors. Except for the slightly bigger display and battery, and the in-display fingerprint sensor, we found nothing has been improved on the latest device. And not to forget the tiny notch on the top which can also be hidden if required. Interestingly, the OnePlus 6T also misses on the 3.5m audio jack following the trend that started with iPhone.

The latest device has been priced at $549 for the base variant while the OnePlus 6 was priced at $529 for the same base variant. The Indian launch is scheduled for tomorrow and the pricing is expected to be similar to OnePlus 6 which was launched for Rs. 34,999 in the country. Stay tuned to PhoneRadar for more.
