Nokia 7 Plus will be the First 18:9 Smartphone from HMD Global, to Launch at MWC 2018

From the last few months, we have been hearing a lot of rumors about the upcoming Nokia smartphones. While no new devices are announced after launching the Nokia 2 in global markets, HMD Global has launched two new smartphones exclusively in China. The Nokia 7 and Nokia 6 (2018) are currently limited to the Chinese market. At the MWC 2018, the company is expected to launch the new Nokia 3310 4G, Nokia 7 Plus, and Nokia 6 (2018) smartphones.

Nokia 7 Plus With Snapdragon 660 SoC Spotted on GeekBench

Now, a new device Nokia 7 Plus is spotted on the benchmarking website GeekBench. It could be the upgraded variant of the China-exclusive Nokia 7 launched back in October 2017. According to the listing, the Nokia 7 Plus comes powered by the 64-bit Qualcomm Snapdragon 660 Mobile Platform. As of now, the Snapdragon 660 is only limited to the Chinese market. At the MWC 2018, we might finally see the Snapdragon 660 powered smartphones coming to the other markets.

The Nokia 7 Plus also packs 4GB of RAM and runs on the latest Android 8.0 Oreo out of the box. It has scored 1636 on the single-core test and 5902 on the multi-core test. talking about the already launched Nokia 7, it sports a 5.2-inch Full HD IPS display with the standard 16:9 aspect ratio. We expect the upcoming Nokia 7 Plus to use the 18:9 display technology.

Under the hood, the Nokia 7 packs Qualcomm Snapdragon 630 Mobile Platform along with Adreno 508 GPU and 4GB of RAM. It comes with a 7000-series Aluminum frame with a 3D curved glass back body. The Nokia 7 is also IP54 certified making it at least splashproof. In China, the Nokia 7 was launched with the Android 7.1.1 Nougat on-board with a customized UI laid on top.

A week after the Nokia 7 Plus was spotted on Geekbench, the renders and few specifications are leaked by the presentation slides. The Nokia 7 Plus will be upgraded variant to the last year’s Nokia 7 launched in China. While the recently launched Nokia 6 (2018) still came with an 18:9 aspect ratio, the company seems to be using 18:9 displays starting with the Nokia 7 Plus. While all the major manufacturers started offering 18:9 displays from early 2017, only Nokia and Sony are expected to make their debut in 2018.

HMD Global already confirmed its MWC launch event to be held on January 25th in Barcelona, Spain. Along with the Nokia 7 Plus, the company will also showcase the Nokia 3310 4G and Nokia 6 (2018) smartphones. Talking about the Nokia 7 Plus, the GeekBench listing already confirmed it to come powered by 64-bit Snapdragon 660 octa-core processor. It will be running on the latest Android 8.0 Oreo out of the box and is mentioned to get the Android 8.1 Oreo upgrade.

It sports a 6-inch display Full HD+ (2160 x 1080 pixels) resolution and 18:9 aspect ratio. HMD Global is using Zeiss certified lens for both the front and rear cameras on the Nokia 7 Plus. Coming to the cameras, the smartphone offers 12MP + 13MP dual camera setup on the rear with 2X optical zoom and a 16MP front camera with f/2.0 aperture. We will be seeing feature-rich Nokia’s camera app with features like Bothie, Dual-sight live stream, and more.

While the Nokia 7 is the first smartphone HMD Global to feature glass back body, the upcoming Nokia 7 Plus will be coming with the metal body. It is also mentioned to come with the ceramic coating on the rear. The device features USB Type-C port and supports 9V/2A (18W) fast charging technology.
