Xiaomi has launched the Redmi 3 smartphone in January this year, the company made some decent upgrades in terms of design and specifications when compared to the Redmi 2 and Redmi 2 Prime. It is priced at just 699 Yuan (approx $108 / Rs. 7,200) and came with a 4,100mAh battery and Snapdragon 616 octa-core processor. While everything is packed perfectly at that price range, the fingerprint sensor is missed which was offered by the Coolpad Note 3 Lite that comes with a price tag of Rs. 6,999.
Now there is a new variant of Xiaomi device listed on TENAA that comes with a fingerprint sensor placed on the back. Apart from the added fingerprint sensor, the design and the specifications remain same as on Redmi 3. It comes with the same 5-inch HD (1280 x 720 pixels) display and is powered by a 1.5GHz Snapdragon 616 octa-core processor. There is 2GB of RAM and 16GB of internal storage along with an option to expanded the storage upto 128GB via MicroSD card slot.
In the camera department, the device packs a 13MP rear camera with f/2.0 aperture and PDAF which is every rarely seen in entry-level smartphones. For the selfie lovers, the company offers a 5MP front camera with f/2.2 aperture that can also record videos in 1080p resolution. It runs on Android 5.1 Lollipop with the highly customized MIUI 7 overlaid. It also supports dual SIM dual standby and offers connectivity options like 4G LTE, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, GPS/A-GPS, and a MicroUSB 2.0.
We expect this new device to be named as Redmi 3 Prime or Redmi 3S and it will be the second device in Redmi series to pack a fingerprint sensor. The Redmi Note 3 is the first ever smartphone in the Redmi series to launch with a metal body and fingerprint sensor. After launching the Helio X10 powered variant in November last year in China, the Indian variant came with Snapdragon 650 hexa-core processor. It is available in 2GB and 3GB variants priced at Rs. 9,999 and Rs. 11,999 respectively.
