Microsoft has officially unveiled the all-new Lumia 950 and Lumia 950XL at the launch event of Windows 10 powered devices that was held in New York on October 6th. The company had also announced Surface Pro 4 tablet, Microsoft Band and also a laptop called ‘Surface Book’. The flagship Lumia smartphones are made available for pre-orders in Europe starting from yesterday.
As per the rumors, the official Continuum Dock will be priced at $99 while few retailers are offering it for free with Lumia 950 and 950XL. The new Surface Pen support for Lumia 950 and 950XL is now confirmed by an employee (@Nawzil10) of Microsoft Mobile division. With the added stylus support, we can expect more features to be added to the Microsoft Office apps for better productivity.
The Lumia 950 sports a 5.2-inch QHD (2560×1440) AMOLED display along with a Gorilla Glass 3 protection on top of it. It comes powered by a 64-bit Snapdragon 808 hexa-core processor while larger Lumia 950XL is powered by a much powerful 64-bit Snapdragon 810 octa-core processor. The Lumia 950XL sports a 5.7-inch QHD display with Gorilla Glass 4 protection.
While the Lumia 950XL comes with liquid cooling technology, the Snapdragon 808 on Lumia 950 doesn’t require this new technology. Both the device comes with 3GB of LPDDR4 RAM and 32GB of internal storage along with a microSD card slot for storage expansion upto 200GB. The device will be available in both single SIM and dual SIM variants.
Coming to the camera, both the devices sports the same 20MP PureView camera on the rear of the device with triple LED flash and laser autofocus. On the front, the devices sport a 5MP selfie camera with f/2.4 aperture that can record videos in Full HD resolution. Both the devices, Lumia 950 and 950XL will include a USB Type-C 3.1 port and IRIS scanner for privacy protection.
The Lumia 950 comes with a 3000mAh battery and the Lumia 950 XL has a slightly bigger 3,340mAh capacity battery. The devices also support quick charging and comes with 4G LTE for better internet speeds. Microsoft Continuum dock can be connected to this devices for using the smartphone’s hardware for experiencing full-fledged desktop experience.
