Microsoft Lumia 650 is another budget device from Microsoft that comes with a 5-inch touchscreen display with a resolution of 720 x 1280 pixels giving a pixel density of 297 ppi. Under the hood, there is a quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 212 processor clocking at 1.3 GHz coupled with 1 GB of RAM. The device will run the latest Windows Operating system out of the box and comes with many in built applications. The device has been launched officially in China for 1799 Yuan and wil come to India very sonn. Recently we have seen the Microsoft Lumia 550 along with Lumia 950 and 950XL that has impressed few with their specifications.
Here are few tips and tricks of the device that will be helpful in case if you consider buying this phone.
To insert the SIM on Lumia 650, you need to remove the back cover and just above the battery you can see the SIM slot. Now place the SIM accordingly as instructed and place the back cover to switch on the device. Now the device is ready to use with the SIM.
The device is a single SIM variant and will be supporting a Nano SIM card. Microsoft should have provided dual SIM option as most of the devices in the market come with this feature and also helps its user to access two different numbers from one device. There is an optional dual SIM variant also that comes with dual standby.
Glance screen is almost available on all the windows devices. In Glance mode, the device shows the time and other lock screen content in standby for the selected period. To turn on Glance screen, go to the settings of the device and tap on the option Extras. Here you can set up the glance screen. You can manage the time of the glance screen and also the content that had to be shown on it. There is also an option to turn on the glance screen whenever the device is on charge.
To share data network via a mobile hotspot, go to the settings of the device and tap on the option Wireless and networks. Now scroll down to Mobile hotspot and toggle it on or off accordingly. You can share your network via Wi-Fi or Bluetooth with the selected device. To share through Bluetooth, both the devices should have Bluetooth turned on and should be paired initially.
To take a screenshot on Lumia 650, the user needs to hold the power/lock button along with the volume up button simultaneously for few seconds so that the screenshot is captured. This screenshot can be viewed immediately by swiping from the top and can be seen later from the file manager app on the device that can be shared via any application.
To check if there is any update available on the device, go to the settings of the device and tap on the option Update and security. Here the user can see if there is any update available and if it is available, you need to download the update and install it. The new update will bring bug fixes and many new features to the device that will help its users. Before installing the update, make sure the battery on the device is more than 50 percent. It is always a struggle to transfer our old data to the new phone, but with Lumia 650 it is going to be very easy as Microsoft has added a new feature called Transfer my data app that will easily import all the contacts. All you need is to have a Bluetooth connection on both the device. For this go to the settings of the device and tap on the option Transfer my data. Switch on Bluetooth on both the devices and pair them to transfer the data.
Setting up a lock screen is vital to keep your data safe and also from the hands of kids who knowingly or unknowingly make calls and send messages. To setup lock screen on the Lumia 650, go to the settings of the device by swiping the home screen or from the quick settings available on the device. Now tap on the option Personalization and then select Lock screen. The user will be asked to enter the Microsoft account details and one you enter the require things tap the save button. There is a Li-Ion 2000 mAh battery on the back of the device under the removable cover. This battery provides a standby of up to 624 h on 3G and talk time of 16 h on 2G and 13 h on 3G. This is a decent battery considering it is as a mid-range device.
Lumia motion data will collect all the data about how its user moves or collects information about the places and routes the user takes and provides it to all the apps that are installed. To turn on this feature on Lumia 650, go to the settings of the device and select the option Lumia motion. Here, you will have two different modes, Basic and Detailed wherein the user can select it accordingly. You can also select the app that you want to read the data and limit the others from using it by option provided.
Turning on Magnify option on the device will let its user magnify things on the screen to view it clearly. To enable this feature, go to the settings and select the Magnifier option and turn it on by toggling the option. To magnify, double tap in the screen with two fingers and to pan it while it is magnified, you can use two fingers to change the zoom levels and then you can pan up and down accordingly.
To set-up ringtone on your device, go to the settings and tap on Personalisation and select the options sound. Now go to sounds and you can choose your ringtone from the given options accordingly. From here you also have the choice to turn on the vibration and also turn off and on sound for various functions like the key press, lock and unlock camera shutter and system alerts.

The device currently runs on Windows 10 mobile operating system out of the box that is the latest from Microsoft. Since this is a Windows mobile, it comes pre-installed with apps like, Here Maps, Office, Lumia Help, Microsoft Edge, OneDrive, One Note, Outlook, Word, wallet and other Microsoft applications.

Here you can setup the date and time of the device and then add the language by tapping on to the language option. Apart from these, there are options like Region – to select the region of the user, Keyboard, and Speech.
The keyboard language options those are available on the device English (India), Hindi Devanagari and Hinglish. You can select from any of the options accordingly. There are many other options in the more keyboard section, where you can also send Microsoft information about how you write and improve typing and writing. Apart from this, there are options like, show dictation button, switch back to letters after I type an emoticon and language switching key.
Microsoft Lumia 650 comes with a 8 MP auto-focus camera on the rear with LED flash and 1/4” sensor size. It is capable of recording 720p videos at 30fps and also has the features like touch to focus and geo-tagging. There is also a 5 MP front facing the camera for video calling and selfies.
To reset your device go to the settings of the device by swiping from the top from the quick settings or swipe to the left from the home screen to find the settings option. Before this is done make sure that all the data is backed up and the battery on the device is more than 50%.
