After announcing the Microsoft Lumia 550 at the Windows 10 devices launch event held in October, the device is recently made available in the U.S and few selected European markets. Today the company has officially launched the device in the Indian market. While the Lumia 950 and Lumia 950XL are already available in the market, the launch of Lumia 550 comes just before Christmas time.

The device runs on the latest Windows 10 out-of-the-box and with the entry-level specifications, it is optimized to perform without any glitches. While the device is announced in both single and dual SIM variants, but only the dual SIM variant is launched in the Indian. It offers Cat 4 LTE that supports in India and is also most affordable 4G LTE smartphone ever launched by Microsoft.

It features a 4.7-inch display with a resolution 1280 x 720 pixels and is powered by Snapdragon 210 quad-core processor clocked at 1.1GHz. There is 1GB of RAM and 8GB of internal storage that can be further expandable upto a maximum of 200GB. It has a removable polycarbonate back cover that houses a 2,100mAh battery that gives 17 hours of talk time and lasts upto 28 days on standby.

Talking about the camera, it comes with a 5MP rear camera with LED flash and f/2.4 aperture and on the front, it has a 2MP selfie camera with f/2.8 aperture. Connectivity options on this device include Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.1, GPS/A-GPS/GLONASS, MicroUSB 2.0 port along with 4G LTE. The device also includes Microsoft Office suite of apps for creating and editing documents on the go.

The device weighs 141.9 grams and measures 9.9 mm thick. It will be available in Glossy White and Matte Black color options. Coming to the pricing of the Lumia 550, the device costs Rs 9399 and will be available from the next week, precisely from 23rd of december. Earlier to this, the company had launched the flagship Lumia 950 and 950XL that are priced at Rs. 43,699 and Rs. 49,399 respectively.

Note from the Editor-in-Chief: We are still wondering how would the brand justify the price of the Phone since it comes with very basic hardware like the Snapdragon 210 chipset, 1GB of RAM and a 5MP Camera. These days we have many Smartphones at sub Rs 10,000 pricing that offer powerful hardware when compared to the Lumia 550. It is already known that the Windows Phone have a very less market share but with these kind of pricing on their entry level smartphones, we do not see any changes for the brand’s market share anytime soon.
