Meizu M5 Smartphone & Meizu TV Box Powered by Flyme OS Launched in China

Meizu will be launching its new flagship smartphone Meizu Pro 6s on November 3rd in China. But before to that, today the company hold another event to launch a new budget smartphone called Meizu M5. We already got the specifications and first look from the earlier leaks. While the Meizu M3 came with a polycarbonate shell, the Meizu M3s and M3 Note sports metal body. Now, the newly launched Meizu M5 is also built out of plastic. The device will be available in Glacier White, Mint Green, Champagne Gold, Sapphire, and Matte Black color options. It runs on Flyme OS powered by Alibaba’s Yun OS, FYI, Alibaba is also one of the investors in Meizu.

It sports a 5.2-inch IPS display with HD (1280 x 720 pixels) resolution. Under the hood, there is MediaTek MT6750 octa-core processor coupled with Mali-T860 GPU. Unlike the Meizu M3, the M5 includes the fingerprint sensor and can be used for mobile payments via Alipay and WeChat. It comes with 2GB and 3GB of RAM along with 16GB and 32GB of internal storage respectively. There is also MicroSD card slot for storage expansion upto 128GB. As listed on TENAA, there is no 6GB RAM variant for this HD Display smartphone. The 3070mAh non-removable battery on this device is said to give 66 hours of music playback.

In the camera department, the Meizu M5 comes with a 13MP rear camera with PDAF, LED flash and f/2.2 aperture. For selfies, there is a 5MP front camera with f/2.0 aperture and fixed focus. It supports dual SIM dual standby with the hybrid SIM slot and offers 4G LTE. The device measures 147.2 x 72.8 x 8 mm and weighs 138 grams. It is priced at 699 Yuan and 899 Yuan for the 2GB and 3GB RAM variants respectively. The M5 will be available to pre-order starting from tomorrow and will be on sale starting from November 7th on Meizu store and Tmall, while the availability on Suning starts from November 11th, i.e.; singles day.

Along with the smartphone, the company also unveiled the ‘Meizu Box’ which is a Flyme TV OS powered Set-top box that brings smart features to the regular LED TVs. It is priced at 299 Yuan and comes in Black and White color options. Talking about the specifications, there is 64-bit quad-core processor clocked at 2GHz and coupled with Mali-450 GPU. It includes 1GB of RAM and 8GB of internal storage. For connectivity, there is an Ethernet, USB, and HDMI ports. The Meizu TV Box will be powered by the recently announced Flyme TV OS based Android 6.0 Marshmallow. It has a Bluetooth remote controller which also supports voice search.
