As announced earlier, Meizu launched its second smartphone in the new E-series called as Meizu E2 today in China. This new device comes with the metal body and sports a 2.5D glass on the front. In the recent times, we have seen most of the entry-level devices in China are launched with metal built bodies. Unlike Xiaomi, Meizu hasn’t focused much on the international markets. But in China, the company still holds a respectable market share. Most of the sales are generated through online stores though the offline market is much much bigger.
Talking about the newly launched device, the company brought significant design changes when compared to its predecessor. We already got details of this device even before the official launch, thanks to the TENNA listing of the device. It comes with a 5.5-inch display with Full HD (1920 x 1080 pixels) resolution. Under the hood is the 64-bit MediaTek Helio P20 octa-core processor coupled with Mali T880 GPU to look after the graphics performance. It will be available in 3GB + 32GB storage and 4GB RAM + 64GB storage variants. There is also a MicroSD card slot for further expansion of storage.
The oval shaped mTouch home button comes with gestures support and also has the fingerprint sensor to enhance the security of this device. Recently, Motorola also introduced the similar gestures with the home button on the Moto G5 and Moto G5 Plus smartphones. In the camera department, there is a 13MP rear camera with PDAF, f/2.2 aperture, and 5P lens. The rear camera comes accompanied with two sets of dual tone LED flash that are fitted into the thin Antenna band. Earlier, the company also launched the smartphones with 10 ring-shaped LED flash.
On the front is a 5MP selfie camera with f/2.0 aperture. Instead of the Android OS, the Meizu E2 will be running on the Alibaba’s Yun OS based Flyme 6 OS. It is an entirely forked OS of Android and also has its own app storage and UI. FYI, Alibaba is also one of the major investors in Meizu. On the right edge, we can spot the volume rocker and the power button. The device comes backed by a 3,400mAh non-removable battery that also supports fast charging using the 18W power adapter. It supports dual SIM dual standby and offers VoLTE for faster data speeds and HD voice calls.
Connectivity options include 4G LTE, Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n, Bluetooth 4.2 LE, GPS, A-GPS, GLONASS, 3.5mm Audio port, and a MicroUSB 2.0 port. The Meizu E2 measures 153.7 x 75.7 x 7.5 mm and weighs 155 grams. It comes only in Moonlight Silver and Champagne Gold color options. The 32GB storage variant of the Meizu E2 is priced at 1299 Yuan (approx $188 / Rs. 12,000) and will go on sale starting on April 29th. Much like any other Chinese launch event, there is no information about the international availability of this device. Stay tuned on Phone Radar for more details!
