After confirming it Helio P90 Chipset a few days back, MediaTek has now announced the new chipset in Beijing China at a launch event. The MediaTek Helio P90 (MT6779V) is a 12nm SoC which is said to be offering flagship performance in the mid-range devices also. Furthermore, the new chipset gets improvements in the artificial intelligence (AI) section and can give four times better AI performance when compared to the recently launched Helio P70 and Helio P60.
This new chipset is an octa-core processor that comes with 2 ARM Cortex A75 CPUs with a clocking speed of 2.2 GHz while the other six are ARM Cortex A55 CPUs, clocking at 2.0 GHz and these will be accompanied with PowerVR GM 9946 GPU. The Taiwanese company says the new chipset can offer about 15 percent CPU performance increase over the companies older Helio P60.
With P90, the midrange smartphone will be able to run AI-driven algorithms to identify objects as well as faces and it can also reduce noise in lowlight conditions. The newer chipset will support Dual 4G SIM for providing faster call setup with better sound quality. As per the connectivity section, it will support Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac, Bluetooth v5.0, GPS + Glonass + Beidou, FM radio etc.
Moreover, it can also support the 48MP camera or a 24 + 16MP setup and display of 2520 x 1080 (Full HD+). The P90 chipset is said to be in the hands of device makers already and the first phone to debut with this processor could come in the first quarter of 2019. Hello P90 supports up to 8GB of RAM and UFS 2.1 storage and it has also included APU 2.0 for handling the AI tasks. It will be interesting to see, which smartphone maker will be bringing this new chipset into the market first.
