Launch of Reliance Jio has doubled the demand of 4G VoLTE devices in India
Since the launch of Reliance Jio, the demand for VoLTE demand has gradually increased and now has doubled from the launch date. Since Jio is a VoLTE only network that works on supported devices, many have opted to go with these devices to enjoy the services of the Jio. According to a report in Economic Times, The demand for Jio has increased in the price-sensitive rural areas since the network is providing free voice calls as well as the internet.
Reliance has been using the same bandwidth for data as well as for the voice which is offered over the LTE network. The report also claims that there is more demand in Tier 3 and Tier 4 cities when compared to Tier 1 and Tier 2 cities. There has been an increase in the VoLTE based budget category devices since everyone cannot afford high-end smartphone models.
Many Analysts expect more devices to support VoLTE network bands in the coming future. Reliance Jio is one of the first operators that has adopted and deployed this technology. Reportedly there are over a third of devices in the market currently that support VoLTE. Analysts also confirm that the number of VoLTE devices sales this quarter has doubled compared to same period last year. There are still few people who prefer using featured phones and considering this fact, and there is a possibility of Reliance Jio to launch a VoLTE enabled feature Phone to launch in the coming year.
“With the launch of Jio services, we expect VoLTE capability to be a default functionality in smartphones and the ASP (average selling price) can penetrate sub-$50 (Rs 3,350) price band which will further drive the adoption,” said Tarun Pathak, senior analyst at Counterpoint Research.
