Jio & Xiaomi Might Partner to Sell Mi Smartphones & Mi Smart TVs Via Offline Stores in India

According to the latest reports, Xiaomi is said to replace Samsung as the largest smartphone brand in India. Apart from smartphones, the company is also selling air purifiers, fitness bands, routers, and smartphone accessories in India. However, Xiaomi sells even more products spread across several categories in China. Just the Mi smartphones, the other Xiaomi products also come with good quality at reasonable price.

While the company sells the Mi branded Smart TVs in China, the company never showed interest in bringing them to the Indian market. There might be several factors like high import taxes for not selling the Mi Smart TVs in India. According to Economic Times, Xiaomi and Reliance Jio are discussing a possible partnership for selling the Xiaomi branded smartphones and smart TVs in the Indian offline market.

Xiaomi will reportedly launch the Mi Smart TVs in India later this year. If the deal goes through, there will be exclusive Xiaomi devices in the Jio and Reliance Digital stores spread across the country. As of now, the company is selling its smartphones via Mi Home stores and Mi Preferred Partners. On the other hand, Reliance Jio is keen on expanding its user base by bundling the Jio 4G SIM with the popular smartphones.

Reliance Jio is also planning to bundle the Mi Smart TVs with the Jio Fiber broadband services. With the recently launched Redmi 5A smartphones, Reliance Jio offered additional Rs. 1,000 discount along with confusing terms and conditions. A couple of years back, Leeco launched a few smart TVs under the SuperTV lineup in India. Today, there are several TV brands like VU and TCL offering high quality TVs at an affordable price.

However, the company might find it difficult to repeat the same success as seen with their affordable Redmi smartphones. Interestingly, Reliance Jio already sells LYF branded Android -powered Smart LED TVs in the Indian market. However, the company failed to generate much traction around these smart TVs. While we are excited to see the Mi Smart TVs in India, let’s wait for the official launch to happen in the coming months.
