Earlier this month, Huawei has the launched its latest premium smartphone Mate 9 in three different variants including the Mate 9 Porsche Design and Mate 9 Pro. Now, an affordable variant of the Mate 9 called as Mate 9 Lite is made official. Just like the Huawei P9 Lite, the company has silently listed this new on their website. Last month, we had exclusively reported about the Honor 6X smartphone launch in China. Honor is a sub-brand of Huawei which is know for launching affordable smartphone with decent specifications. Now the new Huawei Mate 9 Lite is the same Honor 6X but instead of Honor logo we will be seeing Huawei logo on the front and back of the device.
At the time of P9 Lite launch, the company had skipped the dual camera setup which was first introduced with the Huawei P9 and P9 Plus, but now the company is offering the dual rear cameras on the Mate 9 Lite without Leica branding and lower resolution sensors. It comes with a 5.5-inch display with Full HD (1920 x 1080 pixels) resolution and 2.5D glass on top. Under the hood is the new Kirin 655 octa-core processor clocked at 2.1GHz and coupled with Mali T830 GPU. Just like the Honor 6X, the Mate 9 Lite also comes with 3GB and 4GB RAM with 32GB and 64GB of internal storage respectively. It runs on Android 6.0 Marshmallow with the customized EMUI 4.1 UI laid on top.
Coming to the cameras, there is a 12MP and 2MP sensors on the rear, here the 12MP camera with PDAF acts as a primary sensor while the 2MP sensor will be used for capturing depth in the image. On the front is an 8MP camera with wide-angle lens for selfies and video calls. The device will be powered by a 3,340mAh non-removable battery that can give 23 hours of talk time on 4G network and lasts upto 650 hours of standby mode. Just below the dual rear cameras, we can also find the circular fingerprint sensor. Apart from unlocking the device, it can be used for capturing selfies and accessing the notification panel. It measures 150.9 x 76.2 x 8.2 mm and weighs 162 grams.
Connectivity options include 4G, VoLTE, Wi-Fi 802.11 b / g / n, Bluetooth 4.1, and MicroUSB 2.0 port. It is a dual SIM dual standby device and supports both FDD & TD LTE bands. The Huawei Mate 9 Lite will be available in Gray, Gold, and Silver color options. As of now there is no information about the pricing and the availability of the Mate 9 Lite. For comparison, the Honor 6X with 3GB RAM and 32GB storage is priced at 999 Yuan (approx $148 / Rs. 9,900) while the 4GB RAM variant with 64GB storage costs 1599 Yuan (approx $238 / Rs. 15,900). Since Huawei doesn’t launch Mate series in India, we can at least expect Honor 6X to be launched here in the coming months. While the Huawei P9 is the last device to launch in India, Honor launched the Honor 8 and Honor 8 Smart smartphones. Stay tuned on Phone Radar for more updates!
