Huawei Nova 5i, Nova 5, and Nova 5 Pro Smartphones Launched in China

The Huawei Nova 5 series has been in the rumor mills for a while. As announced earlier, the company today launched the Nova 5i, Nova 5, and Nova 5 Pro smartphones. The company also introduced the all-new Kirin 810 chipset based on 7nm FinFET node. In the first half of 2019, the company has already reached 100 million milestones. Talking about the devices, the Nova 5 and Nova 5 Pro comes with high-end hardware. The Huawei Nova 5i settles with the mid-range specifications. While the Nova 5i comes with a punch-hole display, the Nova 5 and Nova 5 Pro comes with waterdrop notch displays.

Huawei Nova 5 and Nova 5 Pro

Both the Nova 5 and Nova 5 Pro smartphones come with the same design and also sports similar specifications. While the Huawei Nova 5 Pro comes powered by the 7nm Kirin 980 octa-core processor, the Nova 5 offers the all-new Kirin 810 octa-core processor which is also built using the 7nm node. The Nova 5 comes only in 8GB + 128GB storage variant. The Nova 5 Pro, on the other hand, was mentioned to be available in 8GB + 128GB and 8GB + 256GB storage variants. The devices will be running on Android 9.0 Pie based EMUI 9.1 out of the box.

In terms of design, the Nova 5 and Nova 5 Pro sport glass sandwich design with aluminum mid-frame. On the front of the devices, we will be looking at a 6.39-inch AMOLED display with Full HD+ (2340 x 1080 pixels) resolution and waterdrop notch. Talking about the cameras, the Nova 5 and Nova 5 Pro feature quad camera setup on the rear and a single selfie camera on the front. The quad cameras include the 48MP Sony IMX586 48-megapixel with f/1.8 aperture, a 16MP super-wide-angle lens with f/2.4 aperture, a 2MP depth sensor with f/2.4 aperture, and finally a 2MP macro sensor with f/2.4 aperture.

For selfies, the devices offer a 32MP front-facing camera with f/2.0 aperture. There is also an in-display fingerprint scanner on the front. Both the devices are backed by a 3,500mAh non-removable battery and support 40W Huawei SuperCharge technology. The Nova 5 and Nova 5 Pro measures 157.4 x 74.8 x 7.33 mm and weighs 171 grams. Unlike the Nova 5, the Nova 5 Pro also supports NFC technology and can be used for unlocking the smart cars apart from mobile payments. Both these devices lack the 3.5mm audio jack.

Huawei Nova 5i

The Huawei Nova 5i is the budget smartphone with some interesting specifications. It comes with a 6.4-inch punch-hole display with Full HD+ (2310 x 1080 pixels) resolution. Under the hood, the device comes powered by the 12nm Kirin 710 octa-core chipset. It packs 6GB/8GB of RAM and 128GB of internal storage that can be further expandable up to 512GB. It also comes with a quad camera set up on the rear featuring 24MP primary sensor with f/1.8 aperture along with an 8MP super-wide-angle sensor, a 2MP depth sensor, and a 2MP macro sensor.

There is a 24MP camera with f/2.0 aperture on the front for selfies. Unlike the Nova 5 and Nova 5 Pro, the Nova 5i sports rear-facing fingerprint scanner. It also runs on the latest EMUI 9.1 based on Android 9.0 Pie. It is kept powered on by a 4,000mAh battery but only offers 10W (5V/2A) power input. Connectivity options include 4G VoLTE, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.2, GPS, 3.5mm audio jack, and a USB Type-C port.
