Huawei has unveiled the Mate X foldable smartphone during the MWC 2019 in Barcelona, Spain. It is also the world’s 5G foldable smartphone. While the company said to launch the device in mid-2019, it hasn’t revealed the exact launch date. However, the 5G device roadmap reveals the Mate X to be launched in the month of July. We also expect the company to launch the Mate 20 X 5G which was also announced at the MWC.
Till date, Huawei hasn’t revealed the pricing of its foldable smartphones. On the other, the Samsung Galaxy Fold priced at $1980 is facing display issues. Samsung even postponed the launch indefinitely. Talking about the Mate X, its out-folding design makes it even more prone to damages. The foldable smartphones come with plastic protection layer instead of glass on the top. We need to wait and see how Huawei overcomes this issue.
The device comes with a large 8-inch OLED display which offers 6.6-inch and 6.38-inch displays when folded. Under the hood, the Mate X comes powered by the 7nm Kirin 980 octa-core processor coupled with Mali-G76 MP10 GPU. The Balong 5000 5G modem adds support for sub 6GHz frequencies for 5G connectivity. The device comes with 8GB of LPDDR4x RAM and 512GB of flash storage. It also offers expandable storage option using the proprietary NM card.
It only comes with a triple camera setup featuring a 40MP primary camera, a 16MP ultra-wide-angle camera, and an 8MP telephoto camera. FYI, the Galaxy Fold sports a total of six camera sensors. The Huawei Mate X also sports a side-facing fingerprint scanner. It is backed by a 4,500mAh non-removable battery and also supports 55W SuperCharge fast charging technology. Stay tuned on PhoneRadar for the exact launch date of the device.
