As announced earlier, Honor today unveiled two new smartphones called Honor 9i and Honor Play. Along with these two new smartphones, the company also announced the new ‘GPU Turbo’ acceleration technology. The devices with GPU Turbo can improve the graphics processing and reduces the power consumption. The company mentioned achieving these improvements with the optimizations on the hardware and software front. The GPU Turbo will increase the graphics processing efficiency by up to 60% and reduces the power consumption by 30%.
Apart from lag-free gaming, the device with GPU Turbo can offer HDR-like game effects even with the non-HDR enabled games. The Honor Play will be the first smartphone to come with the new GPU Turbo technology. This new technology will also be made available for the Honor View 10 and Honor 10 smartphones in the coming weeks. Talking about the newly launched devices, the Honor Play comes with a 6.3-inch notch display with Full HD+ (2280 x 1080 pixels) resolution and 19:9 aspect ratio.
The display on this device will be offering 89% screen-to-body ratio. Under the hood is the Kirin 970 octa-core processor coupled with a dedicated NPU and 4GB/6GB of RAM. It offers 64GB of internal storage that can be further expandable via a MicroSD card. The Honor Play runs on the new EMUI 8.2 based on Android 8.1 Oreo. Though it is backed by a 3,750mAh non-removable battery, the device is said to give more than a day-long usage.
On the rear, it sports 16MP + 2MP dual AI cameras with faster dual-core autofocus and auto scene detection. For selfies, there is a single 16MP front-facing camera with 3D studio lighting and portrait mode support. It also supports 7.1-channel Histen sound and 3D game sound effects for an immersive experience. The device sports a metal unibody design and comes in Black, Blue & Violet color options. There are also special edition devices in Black and Red color with patterned design on the rear.
The Honor Play with 4GB and 6GB of RAM will be available for 1999 Yuan and 2399 Yuan respectively. The special edition device with 6GB RAM is priced at 2499 Yuan. The pre-orders for the device begin today and will go on sale starting June 11th.
