Honor 9 Officially Launched with 20MP + 12MP Dual Cameras & Kirin 960 SoC

As announced earlier, Honor has officially unveiled flagship Honor 9 smartphone today in China. With the glass back body, the design of this new device looks similar to its predecessor, Honor 8. However, the curved edges that are newly added to the Honor 9 provide nice grip to hold. On the front, we are also seeing the physical home button for the time on a flagship Honor device. It also comes with an integrated fingerprint sensor. As we covered earlier, the specifications of the device remain same as mentioned in the TENNA listing. The device will be available in Gold, Gray, and Blue color options.
The dual camera setup already became an obligatory feature with the flagship smartphones from Huawei and Honor. Now, the 20MP + 12MP dual camera setup on the new Honor 9 comes in as a much better improvement to the 12MP + 12MP setup seen on the Honor 8. The device sports a 5.15-inch Full HD (1920 x 1080 pixels) LTPS display offering a pixel density of 428 PPI. Under the hood is the 64-bit Kirin 960 octa-core processor clocked at 2.4GHz and comes coupled with Mali-G71 MP8 GPU. The device will be available in 6GB and 4GB RAM variants with 64GB and 128GB of internal storage options.
There is also a MicroSD card for further expansion of storage up to 256GB. It runs on Android 7.0 Nougat based EMUI 5.1 out of the box. The device supports dual SIM dual standby using the hybrid slot where the user can either opt for a secondary SIM or MicroSD card. Talking about the dual camera setup on the rear, there is a 20MP Monochrome sensor and a 12MP RGW sensor with f/2.2 aperture, PDAF, Laser autofocus, and dual tone LED flash. As seen on the iPhone 7 Plus and Xiaomi Mi 6, the Honor 9 can also capture photos with the 2X lossless zoom which the company calls as hybrid zoom.
For selfies, there is an 8MP camera with f/2.0 aperture on the front. This dual SIM device also supports 4G VoLTE which is missing on its predecessor. It is backed by a 3200mAh non-removable battery that also supports 9V/2A (18W) fast charging. Connectivity options include 4G, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.2, GPS, GLONASS, NFC, 3.5mm Audio port, and a USB Type-C port. The IR Blaster on this device helps in controlling the TV or AC just like a remote controller. It measures 147.3 x70.9 x 7.45 mm and weighs 155 grams.
The device also offers Hi-Fi audio output with the AKM audio chip and the in-house Huawei hinsten audio processing technology. Coming to pricing, the Honor 9 with 4GB RAM and 64GB of storage is priced at 2299 Yuan (approx $339 / Rs. 22,000), whereas the 6GB RAM variant with 64GB and 128GB of storage costs 2699 Yuan (approx $399 / Rs. 25,500) and 2999 Yuan (approx $439 / Rs. 28,500) respectively. The device is now available to pre-order and sales start from June 16th only in China. As of now, there is no information about the launch of Honor 9 in the foreign markets.
