The all-new Android 8.0 Oreo is already available for the Google Nexus and Pixel smartphones. At the IFA 2017, Sony unveiled the Xperia XZ1 and XZ1 Compact smartphones with Android 8.0 Oreo out of the box. While the smartphone manufacturers are confirming the list of the devices eligible for the Android 8.0 Oreo, not many of them are revealing the specific timeline for these updates. Now, Lenovo owned Motorola released its list of smartphones to receive the Android 8.0 Oreo update starting this fall.

Along with the Moto Z devices, only Moto G and Moto X smartphones released in 2017 are eligible to get the new Android update. Interestingly, the new Moto E and Moto C smartphones launched with Android 7.0 Nougat out of the box will be missing the Oreo update. Even last year, the company launched the Moto E3 Power with Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow and it hasn’t received the Nougat update. Below is the list of Moto smartphones which will soon get the Android 8.0 Oreo update.

Since the software updates for the carrier locked devices doesn’t directly come from the hands of the manufacturer, you have to confirm with your carrier about the Android 8.0 Oreo update. While the unlocked devices will get the direct OTA updates, the Oreo update for the carrier locked Moto devices are not 100% guaranteed. Since the Moto smartphones come with almost stock Android UI, we will be seeing the clear changes in terms of new animations and boot animations.

The new Android 8.0 Oreo brings several new features like Picture in Picture (PIP) mode, autofill API, adaptive icons, notification channels, and more. The devices with wide-gamut color enabled displays can take advantage of the wide color profile. With the Autofill API’s, the password manager apps like LastPass works without any issues. The user can select any one app of their choice like keyboard app for auto-filling the details like passwords or credit cards details.

We can also see battery improvements with the improved background limits, the app’s functionality like implicit broadcasts, background services, and location updates will be automatically limited in the background.
