Government of India Launches UMANG App for Accessing eGov services
Under the Digital India initiative, the Government of India has already launched a few apps for offering digital services. Now, the GoI has launched a new app called UMANG (Unified Mobile Application for New-age Governance) at the Global Conference on Cyberspace event held in New Delhi. Every Indian citizen with a valid Aadhaar card can avail all the government services within this app.
The app is developed by Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) and National e-Governance Division (NeGD). It is already listed for free on Microsoft Store, Apple App Store, and Google Play Store. The UMANG service can also be availed through Web (web.umang.gov.in), IVR, and SMS. It will soon get the USSD support for using on feature phones without internet connection.
The government is also providing dedicated customer support from 8 AM to 8 PM every day, and the users can get connected through Live chat, Email, and Phone support. Talking about the services offered by the UMANG app, it currently offers 162 services across 33 departments from central and state governments. As of now, not all the state governments are offering their services through this app.
Once the user registers with their mobile number within in the app, they can also link their Aadhaar card and social media accounts. The Aadhaar details will be saved in the system in encrypted and non-editable format. Even the earlier launched DigiLocker app is also included in the UMANG app. All the upcoming services from the Government will be also included in the UMANG app.
With the Bharat Bill Payment service, the user can also make payments for DTH, Electricity, Gas, Water, Landline, and Mobile Postpaid bills. Along with English, the app also supports 12 Indian regional languages including Telugu, Tamil, Hindi, Kannada, and others. If you lost your smartphone, you can call the customer support to forcefully logout the UMANG app.
