Google Launches YouTube Go Beta App with Offline Video sharing, Here’s How it Works

Published

on

The YouTube Go was announced last year by Google as an India-specific app. Now almost five months after its announcement, the beta version of the YouTube Go app is now listed on the PlayStore. It is a liter version of the YouTube for Android app and comes in just 8.5MB size. It supports eight Indian regional languages including Hindi, Bengali, Tamil, Marathi, Telugu, Kannada, Gujarati and Malayalam. The user can use the app by signing up with their Google account, but the account will be only verified once he adds and verifies his mobile number.

Before using installing the app, the users need to know that the app might still include bugs as its still in beta. The YouTube Go app is mainly targetted towards the offline video viewers. Though the offline viewing option is available on the main YouTube app, the YouTube Go additionally comes with video sharing feature. The user can share the already saved video with other YouTube Go app; it creates Wi-Fi hotspot for sharing the videos. It can save the videos only in basic and standard quality, whereas the HD quality option can be expected by the time of public release.

Apart from saving the video for offline viewing, the video can be streamed on the app. However, the user can’t be able to choose the resolution to stream the video. Talking about the video sharing feature, it can’t be played outright after receiving the video. It needs to be connected to the internet for a security checkup that uses 15KB of data. The app will be working perfectly with all the Android smartphones running on Jellybean and later. Since this is in beta stage, the final version might come with even more features.

Tha app also includes the ‘Control Your Data’ feature where the user can choose how much data can be used for downloading or streaming the videos. Once the Jio 4G’s Happy New Year offer with unlimited 4G data ([email protected]/day) ends on March 31st, the average data usage in India will certainly go down. That’s when we guess to see the usefulness of the YouTube Go app. In case, if you are curious to try out the beta version of the YouTube Go app, click on the button below to install the app.
