First up is the Guest Mode on Elife S5.1. This mode allows you to hide some options like logs, messages, albums, desktop edit and many more things. This is helpful in case you want to give your handset to your family members or even colleague. With this feature, you can easily give your device to others without worrying that they might accidentally damage or misuse the phone.
Now talking about the Glove mode. This feature will you to use the touchscreen even with Gloves ON. And that too very effectively. It is quite helpful feature in the cold regions like Europe, where people have to necessarily wear the gloves all the time.
Coming to the smart gesture features, first is the Smart Dial, it will allow you to directly dial the number of the sender when you open a message content or contacts details or call history page. So, enable this feature from the smart gestures section from settings if you want to use this feature on your S5.1.
The Smart Answer feature, when enabled, would allow you to pick up the phone when it is put close to your ear. Now whenever call comes on the device, you just have to put device closer to the ear, and the call will be answered automatically.
Just like the Smart answer, there is smart gesture that allows you to pause the alarm just by flipping back the phone. So, now onwards no worries when your alarm accidentally turns on when you are in a meeting. Convenient isn’t it.
While it is not the most premium feature these days, however, the tap to wake functionality still counts. With this feature enabled, you can easily double-tap on device when idle, and it will wake up the screen. It is quite handy feature when the device is lying on the desk, and you don’t want to pick it up, or just want to check the time.
Coming to some more interesting gesture-based functions, the Quick operating mode is quite incredible. It allows you to do quick operation while in a sleeping mode. Like opening the camera by drawing “C” on-screen when the screen is idle or typing U when you want to open music app. Wait, it gets more interesting, you can also customize these symbols. You can either set it for different apps or a speed dial contact. Note that there are only four such symbols is there to perform the Quick operating tasks.
Now the last in the list is Smart Rewind feature, it will remind you that you have missed some calls or have unread messages. It will do that by vibrating whenever you pick it up to put it in the pocket, it will vibrate, which would mean that you have unseen notifications.
It is fairly easy to insert SIM card on Gionee’s slimmest smartphone. Company has given an SIM card tray on the right edge of the device, which can be slide out once you use the SIM card tray ejector given in the box with the device. Now carefully place the SIM card on the tray and slide in with a slight push. There you go, you have successfully inserted the SIM card on your device. Note that you have to switch off the device first, before you open the SIM card tray.
It is just exactly the same like it is on most of the Android smartphones. You can take the screenshot of the home screen or any app or settings, just by pressing the power button and volume down key simultaneously. The save screenshot then can be accessed through the notification panel or you can go to the File Explorer, there you will find a folder named “Screenshots”. All of the screenshots taken on the device will be saving into this folder.
Gionee Elife S5.1 allows you to share the data connection on the device with other Wi-Fi enabled devices. Meaning any Wi-Fi enabled devices can connect to the internet using S5.1’s data connection. First the S5.1 user would have to enable the data connection and then later, the Wi-Fi hotspot feature on the device, which is quite easy to do. To enable this feature, you have to jump to the settings and then to the more option in the wireless & network options. There you will find an option named, Tethering & portable hotspot, tapping on it will open new options, now enable the portable Wi-Fi hotspot.
It is quite similar like most of the Gionee smartphones; you just have to slide out the notification panel, and then jump to the settings tab there. Now tap on the more option that you will find at the bottom corner in the grid. A list of functions will open now; drag the options that you want them to appear in the quick settings tab.
Even, though Gionee has given a priority for OS updates on its slim line-up consisting of Elife S5.5 and S5.1, over the Elife E7 flagship model. We have not heard any announcement regarding the major upgrade to the Android lollipop version. But stay tuned to this post, as whenever the news arrives, we would be updating here soon.
