After several leaks, Samsung has officially unveiled the Galaxy A5 (2016) and Galaxy A7 (2016) in December 2015. Today at the Samsung Forum meet 2016, the company has officially launched these two mid-range smartphones for the Indian market. Both the devices features an all-metal body that gives a premium look to the device. Even though their predecessors comes with build quality, we can find few minor changes in the design where the loudspeaker is shifted from rear of the device to the bottom edge.
The Galaxy A5 2016 comes with a 5.2-inch Super AMOLED display with Full HD (1920 x 1080 pixels) resolution along with Gorilla Glass 4 protection on top. While the 2015 Galaxy A5 is just limited to a 5-inch display with just 720p resolution. It is powered by a 64-bit Snapdragon 615 octa-core processor along with 2GB of RAM. There is 16GB of onboard storage that can be expanded to another 128GB via MicroSD card slot.
The device sports a physical home button that is also equipped with a fingerprint sensor. It has a 13MP rear camera with f/1.9 aperture and Optical Image Stabilization for better video recording. On the front is a 5MP shooter with the same f/1.9 aperture. It is backed by a 2,900mAh battery that can easily last for a single day of mixed usage. It measures 7.3 mm thickness and weighs around 155 grams.
The Galaxy A7 (2016) looks similar to the Galaxy A5 (2016) but with a larger screen size of 5.5-inches. It comes with a Super AMOLED display with Full HD (1920 x 1080 pixels) resolution. Under the hood is the same Snapdragon 615 octa-core processor that is also powering the Galaxy A5 2016. The RAM has been increased from 2GB to 3GB on the A7 but the internal storage is still same.
It comes with a fingerprint sensor embedded into the home button on the front and even the cameras also remains same as on the Galaxy A5 2016. On the battery part, it comes with a slightly bigger 3,300mAh battery. Connectivity options include 4G LTE, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.1, NFC, GPS, and MicroUSB 2.0 port. With its all metal body and bigger display, the device weighs almost 172 grams.
The fingerprint sensor along with NFC allows these two devices to make use of the Samsung Pay option. The 2016 Galaxy A5 and A7 come with Cat 4 & Cat 6 LTE support. Both the device run on Android 5.1 Lollipop with TouchWiz UI overlaid and will receive the Marshmallow update can be expected soon. They will be available in the colors White, Black, Gold, and Rose Gold options.
Talking about the pricing, the Galaxy A5 (2016) is priced at Rs. 29,400 while the Galaxy A7 (2016) costs you around Rs. 33,400. They will be available starting from February 15th exclusively via Snapdeal and Samsung retail stores.
