If you have been following the news lately, then you already know the fact that Fitbit is planning on launching its own smartwatch. The same was pretty much confirmed by the company when they acquired Pebble. Since then, there have been a lot of rumors surrounding the same and now yet again, we have some new info about it. It has now been reported that Fitbit will launch a new app platform along with the launch of this particular new smartwatch.
The same has been confirmed by Fitbit chief executive officer James Park. According to him, the upcoming smartwatch from Fitbit will have it own app platform and also an app gallery. It looks like both of these will be ready to go whenever the watch launches. The source has confirmed James Park saying that the company will be rolling out a software development kit (SDK) along with a select number of apps. Later the SDK will also be made available to the developers, which will allow this platform to grow.
Apparently, these apps which the developers will make will be available for the users to browse through and download through an app gallery. This app gallery will be a part of the existing Fitbit mobile app. So all the previous reports about Fitbit coming up with an app store are true at all or may be there was a change in plan. Hence, we are expecting that a software will drop just in time with the launch of the watch. Talking about the launch, as of now, there is no info regarding the launch of the watch itself.
Although so much about the watch was given out, Park didn’t utter a word about the shipping date of the watch. So it certainly does look like the watch is far from ready. Well, as of now, all we can do is patiently wait for the watch to release. Having said that, be sure to let us know your thoughts on this.
