Fitbit’s new smartwatch launch pushed back to this fall

by Karthik Iyer 2

A couple of months back, Fitbit hinted that it will be entering the smartwatch market with its new fitness-centric watch. While we didn’t have many details on it at that time, it was expected to arrive later this Spring. However, according to the new reports which we have now if you have been waiting for the new smartwatch from Fitbit then it looks like you have to wait even longer. The Delay seems to be due to some sort of production mishap.

According to the source, it looks like the team working on the new watch discovered an issue with the watch. The GPS hardware is apparently not working on the final prototype unit. This seems to an issue due to the incorrect location. And not just that, the team is also having some issues in making the smartwatch waterproof. Well, if we ignore the waterproof part, still the watch doesn’t seem to be ready for the Spring launch now.

As of now, we don’t have any word on the launch of the device so it looks like we have to wait a bit longer until we hear something back from them. With all that said, we hope the problems are resolved and the company’s first smartwatch makes it to the market on time. However, it will a bonus if the team manages to fix the issue with making it waterproof since most of the smartwatches are waterproof or resistant. Making the waterproof isn’t something that Fitbit has focused. The only tracker from the company which is waterproof (upto 50 meters) is the new Flex 2.

Also, talking about the design of this alleged new watch, it has been reported that it will look more or less similar to the Fitbit Blaze which we have in the market right now. The source claims that it will have an aluminum body and a color display as well. Inside, we will also see heart rate sensor along with the GPS. It looks like we will also be seeing NFC so that it can support payments. And one of the most interesting rumors which we have as of now is about the battery life. It looks like the company is aiming for 4-5 days of battery life in between charges.

Having said that, we would like to know your thoughts on this. Now that you have learned all this about this watch, would you be interested in buying it? Be sure to let us know by dropping a comment down below and also be sure to stay tuned to PhoneRadar for more info like this.
