BQ Aquaris E4.5 & E5 Smartphones with Ubuntu OS Launched in India

Spanish smartphone BQ has launched the first Ubuntu-powered smartphones in India. The device ‘Aquaris E4.5’ and ‘Aquaris E5‘ will be exclusively available through Snapdeal and priced at Rs.11,999 and Rs. 13,499 respectively. The Ubunutu OS that is coming in this smartphone, will be based on Scopes concept, which aggregates content into type-specific screens, unlike the grids of app icons that you have been seeing in almost all the present smartphone operating systems. According to Canonical (the maker of OS), the device will work as a phone until it is connected to a keyboard and monitor, where it starts working like a full-fledged Ubuntu OS for PCs.

These are same devices that are launched by the brand earlier this year. The Aquaris E4.5 comes with a 4.5-inch qHD (540×960) IPS display with a pixel density of 240ppi. It is powered by a 1.3GHz MediaTek quad-core processor and 1GB of RAM. This dual SIM device comes with 8GB of internal storage out of which only 5.5GB will be available to the end user, the company also provides a microSD card for storage expansion up to 32GB.

The device comes with a battery of 2,150mAh battery and offers connectivity features like 3G, Wi-Fi, GPS/A-GPS, Bluetooth 4.0 and  MicroUSB port. The device measures 137 x 67 x 9 mm and weighs 123 grams.

Talking about the Aquaris E5, it comes with a 5-inch HD (1280×720) IPS display with a Dragontrail glass protection. Under the hood, it is powered by the same 1.3GHz quad-core processor with 1GB of RAM found the Aquaris E4.5. The internal storage is doubled up from 8GB to 16GB on this device, where 13GB will be available to the end user. It also comes with a microSD card  slot for storage expansion up to 32GB.
