Back in December 2018, Bose announced Bose Frames AR sunglasses for USD 199 in the US. Unlike any other sunglasses, the Bose Frames are compatible with the company’s Audio AR platform and can be simply used as headphones for listening to music or taking voice calls. Instead of delivering audio through the ears, the open-ear design makes it possible to play audio out in the wild through the built-in speakers. However, the audio is audible only to the person who wears these sunglasses from Bose.
Now, the company has officially launched the Bose Frames AR sunglasses in the Indian market for Rs 21,900 and will be available starting next week. The Bose Frames comes in matte black color and will be available in two styles – Alto and Rondo. While the Rondo is smaller and boxy in shape, the larger Alto comes in a circular shape. They are also said to be scratch and shatter resistant, and will block up to 99% of UVA/ UVB rays.
In terms of battery life, the Bose Frames offer up to 3.5 hours of playback time and lasts up to 12 hours on standby. Also, they can be fully charged in less two hours. On the right arm of the Frames, it includes a microphone and multi-function button for power and pairing. The same button can also be used for triggering Siri or Google Assistant, calls and commands, and to pause and skip songs.
Talking about the AR features, the Bose Frames feature a 9-axis head motion sensor and uses GPS information from the connected iOS or Android smartphone and automatically adds a layer of audio. It knows where you are and what you are looking at to offer augmented reality experience. The AR apps for Bose Frames can be downloaded through the Bose Connect app. As of now, these are only available for iOS users and the company mentioned to be soon adding these apps to the Android version.
